It Felt Like Dinner in Rome

This is a small, comfortable place. Marcelo's friendly greeting set the tone for a great evening in an outstanding Italian restaurant. We liked that the table was large enough and we didn't feel jammed up. We like that the noise level was low and you could talk without shouting. We enjoyed the... read more

We stayed in the city on vacation for 6 days, and we came back to this restaurant 3 times...it's that good! I recommend the risotto with sausage, the salmon or their amazing stuffed eggplant.

We were recommended this restaurant by the concierge at the Ritz Carlton. We found the food and service excellent and we received special attention from the very attentive owner, Marcelo. We will definitely return on our next trip to Montreal.

The service was fine although not overly friendly. The green tea martini tastes nothing like green tea but was okay. The fish tartare was also just nice but had no kick to it and lacked flavour. The eggplant mains was also fine, nothing to write home about. Overall it was good but overpriced for 'nice' food.

Visiting from Toronto...reserving late on Friday nite..Macello was most kind to accomodate 6 hungry travellers. Filippo our gracious waiter went out of his way to consent some variations to our requests...The food ...eat the buffalo mozzarella with prosciutto crudo..outstanding...calamarri fritti...light and scrumptious. The pasta dishes...la carbonara...spaghetti al dente just like the one you eat in Rome...pasta with pesto...is excellent. Homemade... More

A local friend recommended this restaurant while my family visited Montreal and I can honestly say it was one of my best dining experiences OF MY LIFE! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like family/guests of honor. The owners work closely in the restaurant and ensure everyone and everything run smoothly as they should! To start, the... We had reservations for seven. Our waiter was Paolo. He is the best. Ask for him and you will not be disappointed. It is as good of Italian food I have ever had in the world. Don't miss this place. It is very good.

we love this place! We were directed here by the hotel concierge after telling them we would like traditional Italian food. All I can say is that you will not be disappointed. The decor is nice but not overbearing. The menu has a number of choices from pasta to seafood to the to steak. The waitstaff, all of whom are... More

I've taken a client to Bis last week. It's the second time I've been there and frankly I must say that I like it a lot. The food is very good. The service is courteous and attentive without being overbearing. We had a nice quiet table. I recommend and will go there myself again.

Good italian food in the center city but the prices are not for the day by day. I had a Gnocchi in the Style of Sorrento, it was really good.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
