Nice staff, OK food

Great location and ambience, superb Italian staff (but with usual Italian mannerisms which are rarely overly-friendly), classic decor and place settings. Food was generally very good, especially calamari, but I was disappointed with the risotto -- it tasted a little odd and there was not enough... read more

Great location and ambience, superb Italian staff (but with usual Italian mannerisms which are rarely overly-friendly), classic decor and place settings. this was a last minute choice and what a wonderful choice. our server was knowledgeable and paired our wines superbly. the meal was classic, why fix something that is not broken? portions were generous, atmosphere was easy, and the owner came out to thank us for coming at the end. this place will be around another 40 years because it... We've been to Bis many times, whether it's before an event at the Bell centre or for a date night out, we have always had a great experience. I brought my husband there for his birthday this past Saturday. I admit, I usually reserve well in advance, because we have a table we usually sit at...but I called on the... More

This restaurant was recommended by my hotel. On entering the restaurant, I was encouraged by the ambience and looking forward to good dining experience. I ordered, then received my entree in record time, plate cleared and then the main course hit the table (literally) straight away. No time to enjoy the food or wine. If I want fast food, I... More

Good morning my dear Sir, We really want to apologise for your experience at our restaurant we have been in business for 43 years and have always tried to make our clients feel like family. We sometime get caught up in the idea that clients are going to watch a show at the Arena 'Bell Center' and they need to... More

We had a great time at BIS after receiving the worse serve ever across the street at Cinq. The manager treated us nicely and the server (blond) was outstanding!

My husband and I had dinner at Bis with our five year old son. The food was incredible; what more, the staff was so kind and gracious. They knew our son was hungry, so they quickly took his order, and the food appeared in front of him within minutes: delicious pasta bolognese cooked to perfection. This isn't necessarily a children's... More

Superb, authentic-feeling Italian cuisine in a friendly, inviting setting. Excellent service - owner shook our hands and seemed to care about the satisfaction of customers. We enjoyed a pair of appetizers (encrusted goat cheese with apples, calamari), both were incredible. Entree steak was a superb rib-eye worth the hefty price tag... Best steak I've ever eaten. Overall, well worth a... More

We visited here for dinner. From the moment that we entered we were treated with dignity. The waiter took time to explain the menu items, was friendly, patient, caring and polite. The bread was delicious as was our salad. We were each given mini meatballs prior to dinner- excellent. Our meals were served hot, cooked to perfection, and very tasty-... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
