Visiting Montreal

Just have to have Montreal Smoked meat when visiting Montreal. Daughter had the typical reuben sandwich (very good - and big 😀). I had a smoked meat pizza - quite an eye opener. Nice mix of flavours. The other order was for a similar pizza and it was good as well. Lovely basement decor. Very... read more

Large portions, lots of action, right on St-Catherine st. the main Montreal shopping street. Fun for a dinner or lunch just before or after a Canadiens hockey game or movie right down the street. The smoked meat sandwiches are divine ( a smoked pastrami-like meat) , the reuben sandwiches too! A menu sure to please a whole group. Great with... More

Another must do if you are in Montreal - by far the best smoked meat! Great for lunch or dinner, the smoked meat just melts in your mouth. Never disappoints!

My hotel restaurant in Montreal did not open till 7.00 am so I needed to find a place open. Walking on St Catherine St in Montreal I noticed that Reuben's was open at 6.30 and already had customers. I went inside was pleasantly asked to choose any seat and before I knew it had a menuin front of me and... More

Late New Year's Day lunch was crowded but seated within five minutes of arriving. Service was great, portions were large (Ahi Tuna Salad and Rocky Top Chicken), food was fresh and of high quality. Note: Leave room for dessert as they have Huge slices of cheesecake.

Went for dinner on the 1st night in Montreal. I had a hamburger and it tasted good with lots of good French fries & coleslaw. But one of the servers had a terrible attitude; she wasn't attentive at all and before I left, she just ripped off a receipt from the debit machine and didn't say anything. I don't think... More

We LOVED this eatery! We went on the recommendation of our hotel and I am so glad we followed their advice. The chop-chop poutaine was to die for! We had some wonderful varieties of smoked meat! We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next night. Do not skip dessert.... It was also delicious!

Had smoked meat sandwich with fries. The sandwich was really good and it had a lot of meat. Come hungry. It is a little old and almost run down looking but worth going too. There is also a newer location a couple blocks away that might not have the same charm.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
