Perfect French Bistro!

This is one of the best meals I have ever had. No not Michelin 4 Star, but in the moment, simply one of the best. I love good dining. I am an Ex-Maitre D' 16 years, lived in Europe for 6 years and know new wave chic from classic quality. This place is great. The table was set, the menu... read more

This gem of a restaurant fit in our group of 20 on a very busy Easter Sunday for brunch! The service was excellent, the food was superb, and it was only a few blocks from our hotel. We will definitely be back. Plus, the prices were very reasonable! All added up to a fantastic experience. Thank you, Holder!

Landed at Holder after a reccommendation from our hotel concierge. We were just starting out on a bachelorette weekend and wanted to have a filling lunch with some cocktails, in a fun atomopshere. The staff were awesome, the ambiance was fun and bustling and we lingered for a little while and nobody seemed to mind! Highly reccommend for a larger... More

Fun, French restaurant with good food. The service was great. I had the beef cheeks and really enjoyed it. My husband had the cream of asparagus with crab soup and the steak tartare and liked it as well.

Good reviews led us to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Situated on the edge of Old Montreal this modern resto is in an historic building with high ceilings and early 20 th century details. Service was excellent, choice of dishes very eclectic - couscous, steamed clams, steak and beuatifully presented. All delicious and reasonably priced.

Went for dinner with my family. The French Onion Soup and Veal were divine. The Kalamari was average and Hanger Steak were better than average, but nothing I'd write home about. The Lobster Ravioli an acquired taste. No complaints ... overall, a great meal and I enjoyed it very much but being ranked in the top 100 restaurants in Montreal... More

We were so rushed with our meal that we didn't have time to enjoy. Bread came at the same time as our supper and didn't have enough time to relax and enjoy a drunk beforehand. I had the salmon with potato purée and it was great. It would have been nice to have the time to enjoy it though.

We visited Holder on the earlier side of dinner, just before 5PM. The restaurant was on the quieter side and we were the only customers in there for awhile. Our server was quite amazing, throwing in great recommendations and taking time to answer all our questions. He also kept my water and wine glass full, which was appreciated. We ordered... More

Wonderful authentic French food, not to be missed! great service, and dining experience. A wide variety of wines to choose from along with a healthy menu of French choices. I would return!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
