Great food!

Visited this establishment yesterday. Had the popular roasted duck with arugula salad. Enjoyed immensely. Good sized portions and priced very fair. Will definitely return when I'm back in Montreal.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the Holder in Downtown Montreal. I have found to be a quaint little establishment close to the old port of Montreal. You would do well to visit here in the bar for after work drinks and great food to share. It is located right in the middle of the financial district, and you can... More

Sensational lunch at Holder today with my husband. Calamari and beef tartare for entrees, salmon and calf's liver for mains followed by sorbet trio and truffles for dessert. Every plate was beautifully presented and tasted divine. The service was excellent throughout and we were made to feel welcome by the lovely hostess even when we looked like scruffy travellers!! I... After my wife and i tried and failed to get a breakfast at some "popular" crowded noisy spots we got to Holder and did not regret. Very nice place, good service, delicious food for reasonable price - what else to ask for? Maybe a little bit more creativity. Will come there for dinner.....

Beautiful restaurant, nice atmosphere. Go there for that stuff, but get the Duck Confit - it is absolutely rock star - "top 5 things I've ever eaten in my 45 years of life" kind if stuff.

In two Christmas season weeks in Montreal and Quebec City, we had a lot of great food at some very fine restaurants, and were only disappointed three times. This one, sadly, we saved for our last night in Montreal, based on the strong recommendation of our concierge. Frankly we didn't see anything special about Restaurant Holder - not the food,... More

With its large mirrors, leaf green potted plants, brass rails and tiled floor, Holder presents all the hallmarks of a classic bistro. We popped in for a late lunch on our last day in Montreal and weren't disappointed with either the speedy service or the spot-on fare. I ordered fish and chips while my husband ordered steak frites. Both of... More

A busy place on a Friday night, friendly and great service. Good for group dining. A good kind of loud. I had the salmon with lemon cream sauce on potato puree with a side of meaty sautéed mushrooms.

Holder is located right on a main street in Montreal with floor to ceiling windows...so the feel and vibe of the restaurant was great. The service from the point of being seated through paying of my bill was top notch. The menu is very flexible and diverse. My waiter recommended their daily special (mahi mahi) and the filet bourguignon. I... More

We had a delightful dining experience at Holder. We enjoyed steak tartare, lobster ravioli and duck parmentier. All three were excellent! The service is polished, friendly and extremely efficient.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
