Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting encompasses two intimate floors and sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Romantic evening

Went for a quiet romantic supper for valentine's day, and chose Modavie for the first time, because of the original brick walls, fire place and live music. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. We were greeted by the owner himself, Lorenzo. I had arranged earlier in the afternoon with the staff to have... read more

We did not have a reservation but Lorenzo was wonderful and found us a nice cosy table for two. The food was excellent and the staff was attentive, pleasant and very responsive. The ambience is great, loved the décor and they have a great selection of wines. The prices are really good for a restaurant of this calibure right in... More

Lorenzo and his staff really make you feel welcome. After a great dinner, we enjoyed drinks and some really good blues until closing time. Good selection of wines and a really tasty espresso martini. As good as the food is, the staff really made the night. Thank you for a warm welcome to a beautiful city.

We were a party of 4. Service was very good, the food was also very good. The atmosphère in the restaurant was good. Jazz music in the background, and not to loud, that we were able to carry a conversation. The beef tartar as an entrée was very good, salmon main course was also very good, as was the dessert Tiramisu.... More

Just arrived from 3 days of excellent service and dining to find Modavie exceed all. The rack of lamb was superb. Rachel provided great advice and service. Lorenzo made us feel like family. The music kept us there well past dessert.

Right in Old Montreal, there is a lot of charm and history in the restaurant. We had reserved the upper part of the restaurant for a business function and we were not disappointed. Lots of Fun, good food and worth checking out.

Recently had the Lamb Cavatelli and was excellent. Just the right amount of tender lamb morsels in a light tomato, fennel and Parmesan sauce. Almost as good as their excellent Lamb Burger. High energy crowd with good bartenders.

"Great music, great food and great service" would sum up my experience at Modavie. Went there a couple of times and was never disapointed. They say one of their specialities are the lamb which is not a favorite choice for my wife, but she loved it there. It was superbe and didn't have that strong smell most lamb chops normally... More

Modavie is a terrific venue for reasonably priced food, music, ambience & service! The maitre d, Lawrence, and our waiter, Mathew, were both charming! I recommend the duck rillette to start and then the rack of lamb, delicious!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
