Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting encompasses two intimate floors and sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Delightful

One of the best place in Montreal to eat lamb with a loved one, or pretty much with anybody else. The jazz music drives a soft ambience and is perfect for a relax dinner. Everything I tried yet on the menu is very good an the service is always there. You have to try the "Rillette de cornichon"

My husband and I went to Modavie for dinner on our first evening in Montreal. It had been recommended in guide books and reviews as a place that had live jazz as well as good food. We got there about 6 pm (no reservation) on a weekday and were seated right away. It turned out that the upstairs jazz performances... More

We followed the recommendations of other reviewers and were so pleased with the rack of lamb and duck confit. We had great service even though we arrived an hour early for our reservation. Only wished we were on the floor with the live jazz but will arrange this the next time.

Our group traveled from Toronto & Ottawa for an amazing dinner experience. Have never enjoy myself as much as I did last week at Modavie. The food was delicious, the service excellent, the decor is beautiful. Most of all the Host Lorenzo made the experience one that will be remembered and cherished for years to come - thank you Lorenzo!!... More

Throughout the years I have been here several times. I make a point to return for the jazz, food and service. Lorenzo is a great host and welcomes you warmly to your table. Dishes from lamb chops to pasta bolognese and many things in between! My daughter loved the cauliflower soup!

Solid menu and great when there is live music. While the food has never blown me away, it is always decent. Staff is friendly and the vibe is good.

My husband and I were visiting Montreal for our one year wedding anniversary. When we asked our hotel where to have our anniversary dinner, their description of Modavie was by far the most intriguing, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is modern and hip, the singer was just lovely, and our host/Owner Lorenzo was just a treat. He gave... More

My wife and infant daughter stopped by here and had a great lunch. They have a very comprehensive lunch and go menu. The catch of the day (Trout) and Lamb Burger were excellent. The wait staff and service was top notch. A great place in Old Montreal.

My mom, sister and I visited Modavie on our first night in Montreal. Lorenzo showed us our table and was very accommodating during our entire evening. The waitress we had was also extremely helpful and made our evening as inviting and lovely as the food we chose. Thank you for an incredible start to our vacation.

Although Modavie was very crowded on a Friday night, we were able to get a table outside. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive, despite the large crowd. The owner also came by several times to check on us. Had a nice tender steak, and good wine. Nice place in a very touristy part of town.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
