My mom, sister and I visited Modavie on our first night in Montreal. Lorenzo showed us our table and was very accommodating during our entire evening. Although Modavie was very crowded on a Friday night, we were able to get a table outside. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive, despite the large crowd. The owner also came by several times to check on us. Had a nice tender steak, and good wine. Nice place in a very touristy part of town.

Went to old Montreal and are at this great little find on St. Paul street. Food and our waiter Sylvester, were wonderful. A little pricey, wine selection, I am pickey, not terrific for single glasses. We left before the music unfortunately.

Lorenzo greeted us for lunch and promised excellent pasta with bolognaise sauce- he delivered! This is a great choice for families in old Montréal. Good food and a fun family friendly atmosphere. A great find.

Outstanding food and atmosphere. Ideal location. Ask for Lorenzo (the owner) - he will make your night extra special.

We went to this restaurant because it had live jazz at dinner. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. My husband had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. I had the steak frites which was very good. The steak, despite my preference for well-done, was still juicy and had a nice subtle shallot sauce. The french... More

Meh. Pretty touristy. Reasonable service, but the lunch food was relatively mediocre. They have this strange beef tartare, which they load with olives... takes away from the taste of beef, which perhaps was the point.

Had a nice light lunch here on a sunny summer's day. Sat by an open window. Great ambiance, located in old town. Service was initially a little slow.....took quite a while to actually be seated, but then seemed to improve as we ordered and were served. Had a nice onion soup, chevre salad and smoked salmon.

Lorenzo came over to our table on two separate occasions, making sure things where going well. The lamb dish is out of this world. GO THERE if you are in Montreal!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
