Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting encompasses two intimate floors and sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Wonderful meal

1st time in Old Montreal and after reading the reviews decided to try for dinner. Based on the reviews we had duck rillets, delicious a must try. Live jazz music every night with great food in the old port? What more could you ask for? Mussels were delicious as was the duck confit. The music was great, not too loud but nice dinner music. Great place for a date, take the family for an early dinner or just relax with a great drink at the bar. Lorenzo... More

This is a prefect spot! We did a bike tour and then ran here for a bottle of wine and dinner. The duck confit is to die for as well as the lamb. A great meal.

Stopped here for lunch after a wonderful two hour walking tour of Old Montreal run by Guidatours. Although the food was OK, the ambiance and service were quite good, with the typical Canadian warmth and friendliness. We both had pasta, which was tasty, if not spectacular. Drinks (a glass of New Zealand sauvignon blanc and an Aperol spritz) were reasonably... More

The go- to place for lamb, atmosphere and good music upstairs. Service friendly and speedy. leave plenty of time for parking, a hike away at the Port on busy nights.

The restaurant was located at a charming location in Old Montreal. Sitting by the window and observing the traffic passing by was a pleasure by itself. We had the Foie Gras as appetizer. It was delicious and did not put a big dent in the wallet. The Lamb and Duck Confit for the entree were both delicious. The service was... More

My daughter and I had the rack of lamb. We, and everyone at the table, loved it. A bit pricey but very good. My wife had the steak frites and loved it too. All five of us enjoyed our dinner and the experience. Lorenzo remembered my daughter's name (not the one that ate the lamb, the other one who had... More

Stopped in for lunch while strolling Old Montreal on a day trip. Excellent service. Enjoyed the lamb dishes. This is something we rarely eat at home. Nice eclectic atmosphere. Great for people-watching.

The lamb dishes and accompaniments were excellent but the other dishes were just OK.. The setting and live music were nice. The location is very convenient if you're exploring Old Montreal. Online reservation system is very convenient. Bathrooms were a bit dirty.

We were looking for a dinner show, actually a jazz/blue show. It was not what we expected, we didn't like the band it didn't give the atmosphere we wanted, it was more a background music than anything, so for those who were not or are not looking for it might please you. The food was good but expensive given the... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
