Great food, and big thanks to Lorenzo!!!

We went here last week as part of a quick girls' getaway. Great selection of cocktails and food. I had the ginger mojito (yummy!) and the table d'hôte - such a deal for 3 delicious courses for $29. That night it was carpaccio, sea bream with mango salsa, and tiramisu. Delicious and I was really... read more

Booked close by hotel for birthday gift. Reserved Modavie's for diner and Jazz entertainment. Meal was average. Entertainment was just the right level of sound during diner. We could hear the signer but also have a decent conversation. Overall enjoyable evening and just a quick walk back to or hotel room.

Lovely jazz which only enhanced out dining experience. Excellent service-Lorenzo was very attentive to customers and their needs without being intrusive. Unpretentious but with style.

Very nice comforting bistro food, very good sized portions and a charming host - Mr. Lorenzo. And on top of that, there's really wonderful jazz seven nights a week. If this resto were in my home town, it would be my go to favorite. It's NOT fine dining, it's just really good food in a very comfortable atmosphere with great... More

In old town Montreal, amazing food, wonderful service, & excellent live Jazz in a Bistro setting providing a great vibe & a delicious, unforgettable meal. Love the Maitre D' Lorenzo. A must visit in Montreal, but don't forget to make a reservation! Order the lamb chops!

Went for dinner early on a Friday evening. Blues featured upstairs. The food was quite good. Beware portion sizes -- the salads and octopus appetizer we had were more than enough to share for two, as was the rack of lamb. The lamb was really good and we had a modestly priced red for a very reasonable bill. The blues... More

This has to be the best food I have ever eaten in my life, as soon as I finished eating I wondered when we would be coming back, and where I could find food this good again. After much searching, I have discovered that nothing can compare to the food, along with the fantastic atmosphere and wait staff. The jazz... More

We were looking for a nice place to go to on a Saturday night . We found this restaurant on trip advisor and decided to go as it had live jazz and all the reviews were good. The reviews didn't lie. This place was awesome . We were four and all ordered different stuff. Pasta, lamb, beef tartar and oysters.... More

My 2nd visit to Montreal in 2 years and Modavie was at top of the list to dine at. This time we were celebrating 2 birthday dinner celebrations last Wednesday night. Superb racks of lamb, nice varied wine list with wines by the glass accompanied by a live jazz guitar and bass. In addition to being a superb host, Lorenzo... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
