Modavie loads braised lamb, enrobed in a rich gravy, onto a crusty baguette; tosses chunks of lamb with cavatelli and a touch of tomato sauce; grills lamb chops and roasts racks. Lamb is the star here and its versatility is remarkable. The sandwich and pasta showcased lamb’s depth and complexity; the chops and rack highlighted lamb’s mild but distinctive taste.... More

We made a reservation as a group of five adults and one infant. Just a few friends vacationing together but sometimes having a small baby can be an issue. Lorenzo greeted us with a warm welcome and bent over backward to ensure that we were comfortable. This included giving us a table where we wanted but an option to move... More

We have just moved to Old Montreal from Washington, DC and are so happy to have found Modavie. This restaurant, in the heart of Old Montreal has it all...excellent food, atmosphere, location, music. If you are a visitor to Montreal and in search of a dining experience that captures the essence of the City...both in beauty and in gastronomie...definitely check... More

This restaurant is attractive, and the staff is quite pleasant. Nice wine list, and an amazing green salad. (I'm not a huge salad person, but the salads I had in Montreal were all somehow wonderful.) Dinner was a disappointment, but I should have known better than to order fish. The restaurant is known for its lamb dishes, and the couple... More

The food was fine, the wait staff attentive and friendly, but overall the place was a letdown. After checking reviews on Trip Advisor, I booked Modavie through Open Table to celebrate my husband's birthday and treat him to some cool jazz whilewe were visiting Montreal. Our reservation was for 8, when we arrived we were told that we would have... More

Nice restaurant, the easy listening live singer was,,,ok, I found it gave the place a low key, slow pace. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but I would have preferred a more up beat atmosphere. The food was again, nothing special. My steak was full of fat and gristle, not what I expected. The best part was the desert,... More

Arrived without a reservation and really wanted to be upstairs where the live singer was, despite being busy Lorenzo was extremely accommodating and we were given a great table by the band! Food delicious and service impeccable! A definite must to experience what old Montreal!

I ordered a French martini and I don't usually drink more than half a glass but this time I finished the whole thing in a second because first, it tasted so good, but second, I don't think it had any alcohol in it:( I ordered the catch of the day which was codfish with vegetable. It was great. My husband... More

We found the restaurant from TripAdvisor. We have read many comments regarding Lorenzo. All of them are true.. all of them are accurate.... very very nice welcoming man that makes you feel at home immediately. There was also a nice young lady who we found out was 17 years old that greets you at the door. She was also very... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
