Good Indian cuisine near McGill U

This restaurant was ranked 4 stars in the Gourmand guide to Montreal so my expectations were high. Alas, it's a bit better than average but not the kind of destination Indian food you might find in NY or DC.

The Naan bread and Samosa were excellent. Wasn't very impressed with the butter Chicken. I felt the food was overpriced for the quality and experience.

We were invited over here by my relatives. We had wonderful dinner experience here. Owner Mr Vinod was very courteous and he looked after us very well. Chef prepared most tasty butter chicken I had in my life. All food was served very hot and was very delicious. We thank whole staff for making our evening enjoyable.

I love Indian food and this place had great ratings here and also in a magazine I read. I was disappointed though. The food wasn't as rich in spices and flavor as I expect from Indian food. The service was very good though.

I have travelled far and wide and I have yet to come across another Indian restaurant as fine as this. The minute you enter this restaurant the feeling of coming to a fine dining place envelops you. With high ceilings, tasteful decor and sumptuous food, this place is really the tops. The owner Mr Kapoor is very proud of his... More

Visiting Montreal with my family for the fourth holiday. After darbar (rated #1, were rude on the telephone, could not accommodate my group of 7, was only willing to accept cash for delivery) failed we went to le taj. Amazing!! Spectacular!! Service was perfect, food was perfect. I'm just visiting so I can't make this a regular restaurant but I... More

I ordered the menu for 34 CAD, which was way overpriced for the value: mediocre somosas with a composition of standard dips and a mix of lettuce, cabbage and cucumbers which had seen better days; the main dish consisted of a tame dahl, again a small, overdate salad mix, acceptable beef curry and excellent tasty naan; for dessert: a hot... The Tandoor chicken was tender and flavorful, Saag Paneer tasted of spinach and good Indian spice. You can taste the food and the spice both. Service was very good, and quick even as busy as the place was. Prices were very reasonable, appetizers less than $10 and entrees from $12 to $25.

Where to begin.. This place is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I always make sure to pass by at least once whenever I am back visiting Montreal. They have the most tender chicken you'll ever find. All their sauces are delicious. The naan bread is insane. Even their rice is great. My favorite dish... More

My wife and I ate here while on holiday in early June. It has become a must-do when we are in Montreal. We were working out which night we would book for a couple of weeks before we flew out of Scotland. The strange thing is that it is the only Indian restaurant that my wife has eaten in over... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
