lovely evening out

Found this place using Tripit. We wanted something near our downtown location and with a "French" feel. This place was ideal. Our food was very good and the service friendly (we speak no French!) This is one of those lovely restaurants that you wished you had in your city. From the moment we entered, we were made to feel right at home from our waiter to the owner. Our first dinner here was so good we came back a second time. Our starters were escargot, house pate, vegetable barley soup and the standout here... More

Definitely the best food we enjoyed in Montreal. Classy dishes, amazingly cooked, good matching wine and nicely presented. Good prices for the food quality. Service was good even if the restaurant was full. The atmosphere is great - resembles a family french restaurant. Would have been really a perfect dinner if not for the final "explanation" on the amount of... More

Maitre D Tony is truly a "MASTER" at what he does. Got an all star treatment. From the atmosphere to the food and service staff all were excellent. We felt right at home. Not sure what to order or uncertain of wine pairing?? Simply ask. Definitely will be returning. Had a great evening.

Superb service, delicious food, varied French menu, great ambience and reasonable prices. Owned by the same man for 43 years, and a very loyal local clentele. Highly reccomended.

You can't miss here if you're looking for a great French restaurant in Montreal. The staff is knowledgable and professional but still friendly. There's a choice of table d'hôte or ala carte. Everything on the menu is delicious.

I've always gone here with lawyers or politicians, it's a sort of man's club. Don't let that scare you, it's got it's charm, starting with Tony who greets you at door. Great to see free tapas on each table, very classy move. Lots of great choices on menu, I very much enjoyed the shrimp appetizers and tuna steak. They also... More

Finally we dined at Le Mas des Oliviers! It is a cosy restaurant on Bishop Street. The owner greeted us and made us feel welcome. The décor is provençal and warming especially on a cold winter evening. The owner and the staff are courteous and attentive. There is a dish of saucisson and crudités on the table at our arrival.... We had dinner here a few weeks ago. I found this restaurant on TA, and called the week before to make reservations for a Saturday evening. Glad I did, as each table was full. From the moment we walked in, we felt very welcomed and comfortable. Prompt, friendly service which we found to be well paced. Our meal included a... More

My husband and I recently enjoyed an excellent meal at Le Mas des Oliviers. Using the Tuango coupon we started with soup which was excellent followed by shrimp croquettes which were crispy and tasty. My salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband had rabbit prepared in an excellent sauce which he happily soaked up with bread. Dessert was a... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
