Loved the ambiance of the courtyard dining!

Initially I was disappointed about not being seated outside, however, when we were seated in the courtyard, I was amazed at the ambiance! What a lovely atmosphere, complete with live musicians. It certainly is a visually beautiful setting, being outdoors, but protected from rain and sun. Our meal did not start off well, the salad I had was not good at all, in fact its one of the worst cesaer salads I have had in a long time, it tasted like it was made with straight mayo. Fortunately the next 2... More

We visited the restaurant on a whim, while looking for a place to have a light lunch. First - the bad: the hostess was not able to estimate the waiting time. When we saw there were 20 or so people in line at around 2pm, we asked if the wait was going to be long. She said she couldn't tell... More

Playing tourist in my old hometown is a lovely thing to do for a weekend. We found ourselves in the historic part of Montreal, which is touristy, yes, but still pleasant. Jardin Nelson scored our business with their very beautiful flower display and front terrace. We are a simple breakfast. Good coffee, herbed fruit salad which was very good and... More

We were looking for a place to dine in Old Montreal and this restaurant was recommended by two of my colleagues. It was definitely a pleasant experience. It was a perfect summer night and we sat out on the terrace, imbibing Boreale (my favourite brand of craft beer) and enjoying the live two piece jazz band playing popular tunes. I... More

We are on vacation from Connecticut and had lunch. The service was good and there was live music playing in a beautiful garden setting. Really spectacular. We all ordered salads which were all fresh and delicious. Definitely would recommend this restaurant.

Fun place to eat the menu offers a great deal of choices. The food is real good and the atmosphere is great. Live band is a nice touch as well.

Love this restaurant on a summer's day when you can sit on the patio and enjoy the sights and sounds from Jacques Cartier Square. As the name suggests, the garden and flowers around the restaurant are profuse with denseness and colour, creating a comfortable and relaxed surrounding. The menu is diverse with a decent selection of Montreal food fare and... More

Good crepes - not the best ever, but decent and the outdoor back terrace is very nice. They call themselves a jazz venue, but it is really just background, elevator type music - jazz versions of Beatles songs, etc. Good for lunch, but a little pricey.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
