Very good—comfortable and reliable—but marred by a slip or two

I had not eaten at Orchidée de Chine in some time, but booked a table there for a quick dinner with my wife before a concert at Pollack Hall. The restaurant is every bit as comfortable and welcoming as I recalled, with good coat check service and the same quietly upscale ambiance upstairs as... read more

This has been a favourite dining destination for my family over the years. My family was out celebrating a special occasion on our last visit. Staff were not friendly. Our reservation was misplaced. We had an infant with us and when we inquired if they had a boaster seat we were told a flat no. No help in trying to... More

What can I say? Truly one of the best Chinese restaurants in Montreal, from the ambiance, to the service and of course to the food, excellent in every way! The giant garlic shrimp, the shrimp toast, the Singapore noodles OMG!! Everything is delicious, the waiters never miss a beat to provide you with excellence in service but don't interrupt your... The best in Montreal. All dishes were excellent. Don't miss appetizers - hot and sour soup and sesame dumplings especially. Shrimp, beef, chicken mains all perfect. Very attentive service. Just can't go wrong here, year in and year out.

A very nice gourmet restaurant between St. Catherine and Sherbrooke. Excellent spring rolls, luscious sesame chicken, terrific beef with leeks and vegetables in a birds nest. Lovely decor and attentive service.

We wanted a restaurant close to Sherbrooke Street West and decided on Orchidee De Chine based on reviews and its proximity. We were immediately seated and received consistently great service the rest of the evening. The menu choices suited us and we enjoyed our meal. the quiet atmosphere allowed us time to converse and relax while dining. We would highly... More

Right in the heart of downtown Montreal, cozy atmosphere and very good Chinese cuisine. All dishes were freshly spiced and flavorful. The wait staff made great recommendations, all were good, but we favored the Peking style Shrimp. There is a small sitting area, street side, to take in the bustle of downtown, or a larger area upstairs. Notwithstanding the size... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
