Heavenly food, heavy price

Really exceptional dishes! Family with 10 and 8 year old, so ordered some old favorites:moo shu pork, General Tso chicken, crab/pork dumpling, lo mein with veg. Everything was delicious, however the portions were extremely small. There were about 3-4 chunks of chicken for each of us. A single moo... read more

This place is filled with old rich people willing to pay top dollar for average Chinese food. Trust me you can an equivalent or better in Chinatown or along st Catherine's near Guy. Soup was bland, the salt and pepper shrimp was too much batter. We did like the 5 spice duck and the string beans.

Have been funny here over 20 years. This is my go to restaurant for when I want upscale delicious chives food in Montreal. So many choices to choose from in the vast menu of offerings but for appetizers you cannot go wrong with steamed dumplings with peanut sauce -delicious; shrimp toast filled to the rum with shrimp; fabulous Hot &sour... My father-in-law loves the place. He's rich. So he takes us there all the time. It is his 'go-to place'. I enjoy going to L'Orchidée de Chine but let's face it, there are hundreds of Chinese places that are better value for your money. But if you have the $$$$, if you are downtown and if you are looking for... More

The food is very very good but the manager and the waiters are not so kind and gentle. Every dishes we ordered were tasty and the quality was high but the senior waiter treated us in a not friendly way, as he wouldn't our presence is his restaurant... very strange, considering that we were three womens always smiling at them,... Service fluctuated between brusque and rude. Food was very good, and while expensive, not out of character with the neighborhood. Atmosphere was quiet, with soft lights, but at these prices the atmosphere should include at least a simple "hello" and the robotics should be left to the fast food places.

Stopped in for lunch. Setting was lovely--understated elegance. Service was polite and professional. Opted for one of several lunch specials--crispy spring rolls and pork with black bean sauce. Food was solidly good, simply prepared and presented, subtly spiced. Would recommend.

Delicious platters made up of high quality ingredients combined with a hot-spot location in the heart of downtown Montreal combine to make this restaurant a great choice. Whether on a Saturday night as a couple or a quiet Sunday evening with the family I found it to be delicious, fresh and well made. Dinner for a family of 4 ordering... More

This place has been around for ages, perhaps 30 years, which shows it must be good. I have never had a bad meal there. Truly succulent. Considering it is right downtown Montreal, the prices are not bad either. Orange beef or duck are my favourites.

Went here on a recent trip to Montreal with my husband. Service was friendly and food was pretty good but very pricey. We had the crispy chicken, sechuan shrimp, spring rolls and pork dumplings. The dumplings were delicious and the spring rolls were good but a bit greasy. The crispy chicken ($23) was quite good and the shrimp ($28) was... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
