Reminds me of Paris. The food is great, so is the wine list. And both are a good value. If you want a French bistro experience in Montreal, this is a must. more

Our first visit to L'Express was for lunch on our honeymoon. We were so charmed by it that we went back to Montreal on our fourth wedding anniversary so we could have dinner there. The decor is art-deco and is executed beautifully. The food is classic French bistro and is also excellent. The wine list is so extensive that it's... more

I just came back from having a light dinner tonight. We did not make a reservation and was offered to sit at the bar. It was fine but I ended up sitting at the very last seat of the bar -- was next to the servers "pick-up" station. I found it a bit disruptive as the servers were cleaning their... more

One of the best French bistro dinners - including Paris - I have had. Possibly the best steak I have had - and not even a fillet. The hanger steak is amazing. Great wine, fun waiter who was also very informative and efficient, great starters and beautiful desserts. Cannot wait to go back. more

We made a reservation and arrived by cab. About 3 miles North of downtown. Menu in French, English, and Spanish. Wait staff spoke excellent English and were very kind considering our lack of French. Our party had bone marrow, warm goat cheese salad, shrimp risotto, and duck salad. All were very good. Average priced. Nice wine selection. Open very late... more

If you are looking for the real McCoy L'Express is the place. My wife and I had a delicious midnight super after the Montreal Opera. We arrived and the place was bustling and almost full. We were seated quickly and the service was attentive, helpful and patient. My wife had the hot goat salad and I had the quiche and... more

Visiting Montreal for a few days with friends, and ventured up this way on a Monday evening via the underground. Staff appeared to know all other diners that evening…so we figured the locals visit frequently. English menu (we needed…), good food and selection, good value, think busy French bistro. Book ahead, even on a Monday! Nice area to walk around,... more

L'Express is located about 4 blocks from the Sherbrooke metro station. There are many small shops along the way to pop into before or after dinner. Prices are pretty reasonable and it is nice to not have a prix fixe menu if you're not that hungry. It is also somewhat casual (but still nice) so you can stop by after... more
