Best coffee I have ever had along with a filling and tantalizing meal in the perfect upscale diner atmosphere that makes this joint stand out from the rest. The colors, mirrors, servers and enter experience - even with a little bit of playful attitude from the 150 year old gentleman behind the counter. Clearly he's earned his right to take... More

Reminded me of bistros in Paris. Great service, pleasant staff, excellent food. We had no reservation but were seated quickly and treated ciurteously. Highly recommend.

We were visiting Montreal for audio festival and was staying at a B&B down the street. The restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who told me I had to get the Hanger Steak and Fries. This was literally the best thing I've every had at a restaurant it was such an amazing dinner! My boyfriend and I ended... More

Very nice cosy French restaurant. A lot of choice (fish/ meat/ vegetarian options). High quality of ingredients. Extensive wine list. Perfect for families, for long lunches or a quick bite. Friendly staff and good and efficient service. Have been a few times already and was never disappointed.

When I find a place on my travels that is extraordinary, I am often a bit hesitant to return in case it turns out to be a disappointment. We were in Montreal recently to visit a friend. The last time we were here was 4 1/2 years ago. It was every bit as good as our previous visit. Our friend... More

Typical parisian style bistrot. Food has always been good at this Montreal institution. With old school atmosphere it vibes with conversation and clatter of efficient and polite service. Some say pricey but I say it's worth it. I love this place.

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel, L'Auberge Napoleon, as both being excellent for it's food, and being open late, as we checked in rather late. The maitre d' got us seated right away. Our server made us feel welcome, despite being an island of Anglophones in a beautiful sea of Francophones around us. The mousse de foies de volaille... More

What can I say about L'Express that has not already been said? It is a "must" for any visitor to Montreal. The food is absolutely fantastic, the wine list is impeccable and I just love the atmosphere. No matter what you order (I usually go for the rabbit), you will not be disappointed. All their French delicacies are done to... More

Went to L'Express on the recommendation of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. It is a french bistro and actually feels like you're sitting in Paris eating. The don't have highchairs, but didn't seem to mind at all that we brought along our own booster chair. In fact, the servers went out of their way to try to entertain our young kids... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
