I came here on the recommendation of a friend who ate at L'Express twice in two days on a previous trip to Montreal. The restaurant could be used in any film that requires a classic French bistro for a scene. The service was warm and impeccable, the salmon tartare and foie gras some of the best I've had and they... We dined here after the recommendation for a strangers insistence that if we wanted very good French style cuisine in Montreal, then we should go to L'Express. We were a bit hesitant as the walk was quite a distance up the Hill, but we were glad we made the trip. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and our team of waiters/waitresses... More

Very traditional french bistro. We really liked the meal we had there. The food was very good. Not something completely different, but very traditional and prepared perfectly. The service was excellent and the experience was memorable. I would certainly return.

Unfortunately, we discovered this gem on our last night in Montreal. It's a small restaurant and would strongly recommend an advance reservation - we could only get a seat at the bar - but was happy with that. The service was incredible in spite of the fact that the restaurant and bar were packed. I watched the dishes coming out... More

In this spot-on French bistro transported to Montreal, I started with the guinea fowl pate. It does NOT "taste like chicken". Then followed the sautéed calf's liver with wilted spinach. It was all perfection itself. If you can get an eight-year-old to chance this sublime menu, reward the brave tyke with floating island for dessert. It's a pillowy meringue floating... More

Had 10:30 dinner reservations. Place was packed, but they seated us right away and the service was excellent. Food was mixed, but overall good.

I was at this very famous restaurant on St Denis street in Montreal last July. Last time I was there was 4 years ago and it has not changed a bit...the same unique bistro atmosphere, the same excellent service and most important the same quality of food. I sat at the bar and I ordered the same menu as last... More

We are a family of five and ate here for dinner. We had five main courses and five dessert. The hanger steak was very good, the rest of the main courses were pretty average. The dessert were also average especially the chocolate cakes and pear pudding, which I think was only slightly better that what you can get from grocery... More

Make sure to make reservations as soon as you get to town, you don't want to miss this! Amazing food, great service and reasonably priced. We had the ravioli and bone marrow for appetizers and they were both wonderful. Our mains included the shrimp risotto, hanger steak and steak tartare. Everyone was pleased. Would definitely visit again if I were... More

L'express is the best French bistro period ! No matter if you're looking to have lunch, dinner or brunch this place is busy and happening since the early 80'S. The food is simply amazing. I encourage you to visit or revisit this restaurant. Look forward to savour french bistro food at it's best and in it's classic form.
