Looking for a true bistro experience, we visited L'Express and we were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was first rate. Save room for the floating island dessert!

Whether your having tartare, fries, bone marrow, salmon, octopus, mushrooms or steak, the food is always amazing and the service exceptional. Great bar and wine list by the bottle or the glass. Don't feel like drinking the whole bottle ? Ask to drink as much as you want by weight. It's perfection every time in a happening crowded bistro atmosphere.... More

No large sign designating that you are at L'Express. Luckily, our taxi driver was familiar and pointed us to it. We were seated, greeted in French, responded in English and our waiter quickly continued in English. He gave us the English menus and explained the daily specials (only written in French). We are glad he did since we ordered almost... More

Atmosphere is old-world Paris in the best possible way. Friendly service and excellent food. Unlimited baguette with Dijon and gherkins helps to cut the richness of the food. Large portions. Try the chicken liver pate and the steak frites. Good wine list. Always buzzing with people for good reason. Reserve ahead if you can.

Went here for dinner with my wife. It was a pretty small place but it was packed. we couldn't get a reservation until 9:15pm when I called the day of and it was full all they way up until we left at almost 11pm. We ordered the Bone marrow, the octopus lentil salad, a goat cheese salad, the quail and... More

You don't know what TarTar is till you try this place. Plain and simple! Start with a nice red from their wine list and their fantastic Bone marrow dish with course salt.... Portions are great and atmosphere just like cafe Deux Maggots in Paris.... Need I say more : )

Spot-on Parisian bistro. Best dish was sorrel soup (soupe d'oseille) -- was impressed that they refrained from overwhelming it with too much chicken stock or cream. Not perfect (e.g. the mushroom ragout had too much fat & salt in it, and the bread wasn't entirely fresh) but very enjoyable.

Excellent food and service- like going to Paris without getting on a plane. Watching the wait staff serve is like watching a beautiful dance. Most definitely recommend a trip to this restaurant whenever visiting Montreal.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
