Very classic Montreal bistro

Excellent food, perfect service, correctly priced. The atmosphere brings you back to a 60/70's decor with old photos on the wall. We loved it! Highly recommended.

I have been to l'express a dozen of times and enjoyed it ever single time! It has an old french bistro bar with a short and concise menu (that I prefer over sophisticated long menues). The place is alway packed, so call ahead for reservations.

One of my favourite spots for the food, the ambience and the fact that there is no conventional signage to identify the place! Something about this restaurant gives you this Parisian feel, it definitely transports you to another place for the duration of your meal.

Had dinner here (again) last night....another great dining experience. We usually like to sit at the bar, but it was packed last night and anyway our favourite server at the bar (M.Masson) was not there. I had the shrimp risotto which is just excellent. A great place.

The best in Montreal! You just want to keep going back for the food. Everything we tasted there is awesome. The Bistro ambiance and the welcoming is regular. We've been there for lunches, diner, late evening meals and we were never disappointed. Try the mousse de foie de volaille aux pistaches, the ravioli, the risotto aux champignons, le saumon... Really... More

This is a busy place. It's best to book as its a constant coming and going. The service is swift and friendly, a bit rushed at times. The menu is what you'd expect from a French bistro, predictable choices but good quality food. The shrimp risotto was a no-go for me as there was shellfish in it, so I picked... More

It's so nice to get delicious, comforting food when you're cold and hungry. We were seated within a few minutes without a reservation on a Saturday night. It was a busy, and loud, just as you'd expect. The food was exactly what we wanted. Important: BYOB/W

L'Express is an extremely busy bistro where you must reserve a table if you want to go for dinner. We shared the rillettes L'Express for starters followed by veal kidneys with potato and liver and frites, followed up with lemon tart. All were delicious. The staff were a little abrupt in true French style so not much advise was given... More

L’Express Montreal is one for those Parisian French restaurants. I was on the hunt for the most traditional french cuisine I can find. I came across this French bistro called L’Express Montreal, and what stood out for me is I can have all my sinful french favorites in this traditional bistro. I walked down a trendy street of Rue-Saint Denis... More

This small, bustling bistro serves excellent classic bistro dishes that you would find in many Parisian bistros. The noise level is high and the tables are crowded, so this isn't a place for a quiet romantic dinner. But, if you want great food and fair prices and with excellent service and an abundant wine list, this is the place. Be... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
