A change of pace...

My wife and I ate at Khyber Pass last week (while most other Americans were at the World Cup match!), and both thought that the meal was quite good. It's not an extensive menu, but we had been advised to go for the lamb, which was quite tasty. Waitress was friendly and patient. One advantage of... read more

We had a pleasant experience at Kyber Pass. Our server was very attentive. We were seated on the back patio since it was a nice night. Overall, the setting was very strange. The decor outside (including the mural) was of really questionable taste. It looked like someone had quickly set up a restaurant behind their house. The large white plastic... More

We got together recently for a supper at this restaurant, traveling in pouring rain, from the west-end of the island of Montreal, to try out this highly rated place. Unfortunately, we will not be back. The table hotes started at $28 and included a soup or salad, coffee and a dessert. You would think that would be a fair price... More

Thoroughly enjoyed the Afghan meal which was certainly value for money. It has a variety of meat and vegetarian dishes with side salads. We opted for the lamb which was very succulent. The place is very popular and there were people waiting outside because it was running two dining sittings, one after the other. It was worth the wait, the... More

We enjoyed a wonderful, reasonably-priced Afghani meal (Middle East with interesting twists) at Khyber Pass. The 3- and 4-course prix fixe dinners are a good deal. Within our group of four, we had most of the apps and mains -- everything was tasty and well prepared. Our server was friendly and helpful. Two notes: 1) make a reservation; 2) buy... More

Khyber Pass is a true gem. The Lamb is a stand-out, the Lamb shank dish is to die for! Authentic Afghan food.

Had a wonderful dinner but did not realize it was BYOB so my guests had to wait while I ran to the SAQ close by. We each had a different form of lamb- lamb shank, lamb curry, lamb chops and lamb skewers. All were tender and flavorful. We each ordered the table d'hôtel so we had an assortment of appetizers.... Went here for dinner on a Monday night when many restaurants in Montreal are closed. It is located in an attractive residential neighborhood in Plateau. It is BYOB which was nice. The setting is intimate and beautiful. It was crowded, but we had a reservation and were seated promptly. We had a selection of vegetarian appetizers. The most popular one... More

The minute you enter, you know you're not in a tourist trap. The place is extremely authentic, friendly, well priced and great food. Their outdoor seating towards the inside is also a great surprise when the weather permits.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
