Excellent Food

The place is incredibly busy. As you enter, this is the first thing you notice, besides the menu items on posters pasted on the walls. Tried the Chicken in Orange Sauce which was delicious. The service is prompt and efficient. The prices are reasonable. The place seems to operate like a fast food... read more

One of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten in. The owner prepared a dish for me that was not even on the menu. It was excellent!

We read a few reviews that said this was as good as Chinese food gets in Montreal. Say what? The Chinese Broccoli and Mushrooms featured waterlogged, very tasteless shiitake. My Kung Pow chicken was heavily fortified with peanuts and peas while I had to hunt for the the thin shards of what looked like might be chicken. My Spring Roll... More

Food is great and there is usually 20-30 min wait to get in. It’s hard to get a waiter’s attention if you want water, for example, perhaps because it is so crowded. Check your check!! They automatically add 15% tip to your check no matter the size of your party, and then expect a tip on top of the tip!... More

A hole in the wall, easy to find, busy, busy, busy. We ordered the duck and got enough for 3 to 4 people. They bring the whole beautiful roasted duck to the table for your approval then bring the pancakes sauce etc with chunks of duck. They also bring a stir fried dish with the remaining duck pieces. We stuffed ourselves and enjoyed it... More

Really good lunch place. Avoid touristy Old Port places and walk here. You might have to share a table, but that added to our experience rather than detracted from it. We sat next to a French-speaking Dad teaching his son how to use chopsticks and an elderly Asian couple enjoying the day. Food was terrific, and the price was great.

In the heart of Montreal's Chinatown district, Beijing is a popular destination, full of customers at almost any hour of night or day. The prices are good for the area and the selection and quality of the food more than satisfactory. My husband and I went at 11 pm on a Sunday night and the place was still packed, with... More

My first time eating there and the food was fresh and tasty. The decor is plain but the place is clean. A little too salty for me but I never add salt to food and most restaurant food has added salt. As in many Chinese food establishments, the waiters are neutral = not friendly but not surly either. Its great... More

After a recommendation from someone on 'trip advisor', we decided to check this one out for ourselves. We were not disappointed! Ordinary chicken and brocolli and General's chicken tasted even better than usual. The restaurant was conveniently located close to our hotel in Old Montreal. It seemed that we had gotten there in the nick of time as within 20... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighborhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centers, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
