Wander into Le Grand Comptoir and you are made to feel very welcome. Unpretentious with delicious bistro fare, friendly service, and a cost that won't shock. Lunch salads are big enough to share, especially when they come with homemade soup. We will be back. Merci.

Having just seen Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, I felt like Owen Wilson walking into Le Grand Comptoir. Even though you are in downtown Montreal, surrounded by French signs and atmosphere, GC is a step deeper in to France. We've been there for dinner, and was impressed. This time we were there for lunch. We sat at the bar and... More

we were directed here by my hotel as a close sit-down restaurant to go to. The cassoulet was yummy and my colleague enjoyed his steak. House wine was perfect and the staff were charming

I didn't have a bad experience at this restaurant, but I didn't have a great or even good experience either. It was average.

A French bistro that would fit in very well anywhere in France. Food is very good and unpretentious. I recently had their Cassoulet, which is hard to find in North America - it was top rate. Service is prompt and friendly - many waiters seem to be French French, and the atmosphere is much more Paris than anything else -... More

Restaurant is well located right on Philips Square. Décor is nothing special, with a simple, casual atmosphere. We were there for lunch on a Tuesday and the place was filled with locals. French bistro favourites are served by friendly and professional wait staff. The daily special was very good value. Although the menu was standard fare, the food was perfectly... More

The concierge at Le Square Phillips hotel recommended the "GC." We hashish gotten in from traveling and were looking for a casual, unpretentious place for dinner. The "GC" was perfect. The food was good and the service was attentive and friendly. The next night. We decided to cancel our reservations at après formal French restaurant and returned tongue "GC." We... More

A French bistro style restaurant right in the middle of Montreal - sitting outside under the awning, you could really think you were in provincial France. The tables are very close together but the fast and friendly service made up for it. The daily special at around Canadian $15 - 16 for two courses is really good value. Best gazpacho... More

this is a great little place (includes outside seating) with a really traditional french canadian bistro menu. prices are very good also, so you can have a good meal and feel you had good value. the twin duck legs with frites....absolutely great! the owner many times works the bar seating and is a pleasure to talk with. recommended without hesitation!
