Shhhhh!

The menu at this quaint french restaurant in Montreal is fantastic. I recommend the chicken and I'm quite sure my wife would recommend the duck. The service was top notch and the space itself felt old-world and warm. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. There was only one issue and it... read more

The aroma assails you from across the room. This may have been the best foie gras I have ever had, and that encompasses some pretty stiff competition. It has been awhile since I have been to Chez Queux and I am not sure why with the exception that there are so many 5 star restaurants in this city that it... More

I have been a regular since my then girlfriend and I were welcomed without reservation and given a romantic table by a hearth: that was in 1980. Nothing has changed. The service: impeccable, attentive and informed. The food exquisite. The hearth is now a gas fireplace but it's still welcoming. Long may she reign.

Where's the foie gras? What kind of self-respecting French restaurant announces seared foie gras on their menu but declares unapologetically that they "ran out" when you try to order it? This is the first time I have had this deception in Montreal. Do you think Europea, Toque or La Chronique would "run out" of foie gras? Absolutely no sympathy from... More

We ate here on a very cold evening in February. The meal started out with a handmade Cesar salad made at your table. Quite an experience and it tastes delicious. Not too much Parmesan and not too peppery. The main course was delicious. Rare duck with a delicious sauce And for dessert a creme brûlée. Not too much vanilla and... More

We had a 7:00 reservation for New Year's Eve. We showed up at 6:50 to locked doors. After the doors were opened, we were lead to a back room where we sat alone, in quiet, for another 30 minutes until another table showed up. We thought we were in some bad movie. The ambiance was nice, but the wait staff... More

My girlfriend and I found ourselves in Montreal for the holidays this year. I think this is the first time in my life that I've eaten Christmas dinner in a restaurant. If I can find more places like this, it won't be my last. They had a prefix menu, but there were plenty of choices. I couldn't believe the price... More

we have been going to Chez Queux for years. It is consistently a lovely experience. We went on Christmas evening, had delicious choices from the Christmas menu and as usual we were very pleased. The location is in the Old Port, we like to walk around the Old Port and feel like tourists...then go for a nice dinner. our first... More

We dined here on Christmas Evening, so ordered off the special Christmas menu, and we were both very happy with our choices. The setting and the staff are both warm and friendly, the windpne list excellent, the food was absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Chez Queux, for being open on Christmas Day! When we come back to Montreal, we will return... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
