Great place for breakfast

The food and the service were great - everything you'd want for a nice breakfast. On top of that, this is really a lovely looking restaurant - pretty and comfortable at the same time. I will definitely return.

This place is really nice inside with lots of natural light and modern decor. It was very busy (although we were there on a saturday at lunch!), location is awesome. The menu is really big and seemed to have a lot of great basics. We enjoyed the eggs benedict (of which there were about 5 variations to pick from!). Service... More

I often come here with friends or with my boyfriend. We are never disappointed with the food. Always a good price and good portions. However, I have been there a few times when I experience bad waiters. Nonetheless, the food and general service is good. Great spot for breakfast, the goat cheese eggs Benedict is delicious~

My family and I have eaten at Universel many times - mostly for breakfast. It is located close to several hotels and provides very good value for the money. Don't miss the potatoes or, if having lunch, the delicious Caesar salad with grilled chicken. If eating alone, sit at the bar. On a recent Saturday, I enjoyed a robust breakfast,... More

Visiting Montreal for the first time, we came across this restaurant next door to our hotel. What an experience! The waitress was patient, explained what we didn't understand, and the portions were awesome. Great value for the price and the food was completely worth it. We will visit again before leaving!

Very busy and I know the reason why...fantastic breakfast! A seemingly endless menu to choose from. Thankfully we got there at just the right time (1030 on Saturday am) and just beat the crowd. When we left there must have been 50 people waiting for a table. Will definitely go there again the next time I am in town.

Had brunch on a Sunday morning and can't stop thinking about it. This was the best place we ate at the entire trip. Eggs Benedict, crepes, and the home fries were delicious. Fresh squeezed orange juice and nice, strong coffee. We sat at the bar, which worked out because of a long wait to get a table. Service was perfect;... More

Food was excellent, huge selection and extremely tasty. The service was wonderful and quick. Location is perfect too - steps away from St Catherine street. Only negative thing I would have to say is that they make their smoothies out front at the bar and it is extremely loud and distracting, we weren't that close and we couldn't hear eachother.... It was extremely busy on a Sunday afternoon but we were able to get in with a group of 9 only waiting for 15 minutes. The food was great and the portions were large. Definitely would eat here everytime i'm in Montreal for brunch!!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
