Ate breakfast here 3x during our stay. Potatoes are so good Rosemary roasted deliciousness. Bagel and cream cheese is Montreal-style and yummy. Fruit plate and cup options with yogurt, fantastic. My husband enjoyed French toast and fresh squeezed orange juice. My daughter Loved the decadent "Universal waffle" with chocolate, almonds, fruit, and chantilly cream. I am sure there are simpler,... Had a great breakfast today june 29,2015. Everything fresh and presented beautifully. Super busy on Patio, and our food came out before our drinks! The server's were slammed and did their best to accommodate...they did apologize for the wait. Not the end of the world. OJ pricey, but hand squeezed and worth it. Eggs Benedict with salmon, Eggs with crepes... More

We found this place when cruising RestoMontreal and found a coupon for 10% off a meal. We had a little bit of difficulty finding the place but we finally did we were glad we did. We went at 6 p.m. for early dinner and discovered it was happy hour time from 4 to 7...2 for 1 wine. Yahoo! Our server... More

Universal was recommended by staff at our downtown hotel and it was just around the corner so we gave it a try. It is huge and has a great patio. There is a bar where they seemed to make mostly fresh juice drinks but some people sat there for a sandwich. We opted for a booth at the back and... More

Located in the heart of downtown, it was a 10 min walk from the Delta. Upon arriving at the restaurant, the waiter spoke to us in both french and english. The menus were also written in both official languages which helped me out a lot since I don't speak french. There was lots to choose from on the menu and... More

Ate breakfast here three times during a four-night stay in Montreal. Obviously popular with locals, including from two or three nearby colleges. We did not go at peak hours, so we managed to avoid any long waits. But the place was always busy. Breakfast is served all day long, and the menu is extensive. I had fun sitting at the... More

We were just going to get carry out (our hotel was next door). They turned on the soccer game for us while were we looking at the menu and took such good care of us that we just ordered and ate there. The Madagascar Mussels and Shrimp dishes were great. Good beer and wine all at reasonable prices. We came... More

Not sure why the great reviews but it was packed. Super loud music and cause of how crowded it was. Was not impressed. Overpriced burger with cold soggy grease ridden fries for 15 CAD. Five guys would have been better. Couldn't wait to leave

Never previously visited a city and dined in the same restaurant this many times !! This one is worth it !! Very professional, friendly, helpful and bi lingual wait staff. Extensive menu for any taste at reasonable prices (for Montreal). We were 2, 6, 8 and 10 (growing in invitees with each meal !!). Plentiful servings for all meals in... More

Our waiter at Laurie Raphael recommended Universal for breakfast. We were not disappointed at all. I enjoyed Bacon Benedict and Kim said the crepe was "to die for!" The coffee was excellent and the service smart and prompt. Great meal!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
