Delectable Food & Laughter

This small, unpretentious restaurant provided 9 of us (in Montreal as part of Quartiers Danses Festival) with an evening of mouth-watering food and hilarious laughter. The extensive menu and wine list are chalked on the walls, in no particular order, and in French, so our delightful server... read more

I really liked this place, have come a couple of times, but the waiting time was too extreme last time, 45 minutes for entrees and another 45 minutes for main dish, another half hour for desert - when you are that hungry for your meal, you cannot really appreciate the artisanal side and it just feels amateur...even if the waiter... We were thrilled to find this restaurant, the closest eatery to our accommodations, at the corner of Rue Drolet and Mont-Royal. We had a wonderful, creative, and high-quality meal, served by a supremely friendly waiter who gave us all the advice we were looking for on menu choices and wine pairings. The food is all based on ingredients sourced from... More

Nice looking place on an entertaining few blocks of the Plateau. Very patient and friendly service. Not too noisy or squished. Limited but very interesting menu heavy on the locavore philosophy. Everything was very well prepared and tasty. Entrees and mains pretty much indistinguishable. Mix and match. Just enough food not to leave hungry but definitely not a big portion... More

This small bistro in the Mont Royal district has an emphasis on farm to table dishes that changes daily--and is posted on the walls of the restaurant. The room is cozy and the service is informed, bilingual and attentive. Its hard to predict what will be on the menu but everything we sampled was excellent. The restaurant is very close... More

Fantastic food. Mostly organic and/or local. Started with the terrine de wapiti. For a main I went with the classic Coq au Vin. Possibly the best I've had anywhere, at any price. Was pleased to see that they have maintained a small but well thought out list of craft beer. It's great to see a restaurant give a little attention... More

First time in this little bistro that serves a changing menu with beautiful local food. We were very impressed with the appetizers (the bison tartare is amazing as well as the ravioli). The mains were very good an we even ordered more to share. The restaurant is small so a little noisy and the waiter does have to serve the... More

Great ambiance - teeny but cozy. Loved the food! I'm still dreaming of my sumptuous duck-filled ravioli appetizer. My husband's portion of bison terrine was delicious! I had the wild mushroom risotto main and couldn't get over the generous portion, nor how tasty it was: the rice was cooked to perfection and it was just the right consistency - not... More

Great restaurant find in Montreal! Honestly we tried to get a last minute reservation at 2 other Montreal restaurants that came highly recommended, but both were full. We were lucky to find Renard, and it's welcoming staff. The restaurant is small, intimate and well-designed. The staff and our waiter were incredibly friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable to our large group. The... More

While the food and service were good they do not stand out sufficiently enough to merit a second visit. Furthermore the slightly open kitchen is poorly ventilated which is not desirable for diners. Much work to be done in order to compete in this space.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
