Great cocktail/drink spot

Good atmosphere. Good crowd. Did not eat here, but drink selection was great - helpful bartender. Was an inviting place while walking around in subzero temperatures.

We did not try the food here. The drinks however were very impressive. Fresh ingredients were used ex. peeling an orange in front of us, fresh mint in pots, fresh melon etc. Very good, have recommended to all of my friends and will definitely be going again during my visit to montreal. We were also surprised at their unadvertised $3.00... More

Great little place - thankfully open early (3.30pm) when we were finding the outside temp plunging too low for our liking. Our bartender knew his drinks pretty well - and was happy to recommend something based on our tastes. They lived up to our expectations and warmed us up enough to hit the streets again!

L'assommoir in Vieux Montreal is our favorite place in that area for drinks, it's sometimes hard to choose with the many creative choices. We then decided the try it for dinner one night and it was somehow disappointing for the price, not bad but nothing extraordinary. We will go back for sure but to have a drink, the place being... I must say I'm a regular at L'Assomoir on Bernard and was never disappointed, my classic meal is still the Tartar Duo (Salmon and Tuna) and that's ALWAYS good! :) I first attended l'Assomoir on Notre-Dame a couple of years ago with 4 of my cousins (all girls), we had great drinks, good food and lots of fun! I returned... More

Great atmosphere for young 'after hours' type clientele. A wonderful selection of tapas and delicious meals and beverages.

We did not eat dinner here, but the place was absolutely packed! Very friendly staff and the bartender was excellent. We went there for happy hour and sampled a variety of mojitos! One even had strawberries and balsamic vinegar and was excellent!

Great music, great drinks, attentive staff -- can't ask for a better place to go for drinks in Old Montreal! We were a group of 5 people on a Saturday night. Place was full, but still very comfortable vibe. Would definitely recommend.

I had to send my steak back 3 times to get it medium! The first time it came out it was bloody, then it came back rare;, then rare again. Other people at my table had the same problem and yet there were others that did not get their food at all! The waiters were making comments that the kitchen... More

Complete disappointment. Our group waited over 1h for appetizers and another hour for main course. >5 dishes were returned to kitchhen to be cooked again. Steaks were practically still alive and mooing! Sevice in general really bad. After everyonr had finished we were still waiting for 2 dishes. We do not recommend it.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
