Great, Non-Touristy Bar/Restau in Vieux Ville!

This place was recommended by our hotel Le Place d'Armes & it didn't disappoint. Walking distance, right down the street from Notre Dame, great atmosphere. Sat at the bar for really fun cocktails & delicious small plates. The place had a good vibe & energy, filled with what seemed like locals... read more

This place is known for its drinks, which were great, the menu is very large and a lot of options. The staff were great and service was exceptional. However, do not go here for food...it was not good at all...we barely finished and left a little hungry. We had the duck quesadillas, pogos ( which tasted like breakfast sausages) and... More

We had a meal here on our last night in Montreal. The food was really good and had some interesting contrasts using different ingredients. They make some great cocktails there also. Staff were pleasant and spoke english to you happily.

Decent food, good portions, rather on the expensive side. Good selection of wine. Nothing spectacular, there are better restaurants for the price. Decent service.

We did not try the food here. The drinks however were very impressive. Fresh ingredients were used ex. peeling an orange in front of us, fresh mint in pots, fresh melon etc. Very good, have recommended to all of my friends and will definitely be going again during my visit to montreal. We were also surprised at their unadvertised $3.00... More

Good atmosphere. Good crowd. Did not eat here, but drink selection was great - helpful bartender. Was an inviting place while walking around in subzero temperatures.

Great little place - thankfully open early (3.30pm) when we were finding the outside temp plunging too low for our liking. Our bartender knew his drinks pretty well - and was happy to recommend something based on our tastes. They lived up to our expectations and warmed us up enough to hit the streets again!

L'assommoir in Vieux Montreal is our favorite place in that area for drinks, it's sometimes hard to choose with the many creative choices. We then decided the try it for dinner one night and it was somehow disappointing for the price, not bad but nothing extraordinary. We will go back for sure but to have a drink, the place being... Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
