We visited as a group of 12 people and were treated so well. The food was delicious and the staff genuinely cared about our experience. We loved the open-concept kitchen and the menu that was offered. Great restaurant.

Before we went to Salle à Manger, a friend told us it was "good, but overpriced." He was exactly right. We went a bit jetlagged and not hungry enough for a full 3-course meal, so each of us ordered 2 appetizers and a dessert, plus one glass of wine each. The total with tax and tip was $75/person and as... More

We visited La Salle á Manger for Valentine's dinner. We arranged a reservation for 18h. The staff were courteous prior to arriving, emailing me back and answering all the questions that I had for them. The meal was fantastic. They had three special sharing platters for Valentine's. We shared the 'meat lovers' platter. As well we ordered the salmon tartar... More

We were staying nearby on a recent weekend trip to Montreal, so we decided to try this hip-looking bistro. The decor is purposely casual. Large blackboards on the walls announce the day's specials through the plate glass storefront windows. The staff is informally dressed, and doesn't stand on ceremony - they pointed us to the coat rack to hang up... More

This little gem of a restaurant is in Plateau-Mont-Royal, a place where few tourists venture. Even though Montreal is steadfastly French speaking, we were welcomed kindly and had no problems getting served in English. Just remember to at least try greeting everyone in French. Politeness goes a long way...as in any other foreign country you visit. They will detect an... More

We had the lucky of dining here a few weeks ago and everything from the food to the service was exceptional. Yes, it was lively but who doesn't like that!? As we concluded our meal the manager asked if it would be ok if we moved to the bar to accommodate a larger table that walked in we obliged and... More

While there are more spectacular restaurants in Montreal, I have always loved going to la Salle a Manger. The menu is always changing and exciting, the service excellent and the wine list superb. Extra Tip: If only two, sit at the bar ... have an excellent view into the kitchen.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
