My husband and I passed by this restaurant while walking around earlier in the day and thought we'd take a chance on it for dinner. It was THE best decision we made in Montreal! Every plate was flavorful, reasonably portioned, and creative without trying too hard. We had a fantastic salad to start, which I have tried to recreate at... More

This place has brilliant oysters, impeckable service, relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere, and excellet food altogether! It's hard to find reasons not to go here. I visited on my birthday and my food was prepared pefectly and was absolutely delicious (I got oysters to start and to share, a filet minion, and some tiramasu to round the meal out. Everything about... More

First, the restaurant itself is very nice - great ambiance and lighting. Second, we were there with a very large group of people (about 25 of us) and the menu was family-style: they brought out large trays of food and everyone just helped themselves. The food is some of the most amazing food I've ever had! There was a salad... More

1st time to Montreal. We picked the restaurant based on friend's recommendation. We arrived in restaurant's Old Montreal location, immediately loved the exterior of the place. The interior felt cozy with warm decor. The food was excellent, from appetizers (Duck smoked meat, beef tartar), to main dishes (Organic rabbit cavatelli, with mushrooms and a poached egg, Panseared Halibut with herb... More

Well presented and interestingly cooked game meat and fish. You will always find a culinary surprise here from rabbit to moose. Appetizers are special. Tartar is the best. Oysters always fresh but overpriced. Desserts are a treat. Wine expensive but local Quebec wines worth trying. Out of the way basement venue,a secretive retreat. Try it.

We were in Montreal for the Grand Prix and did not think we would be able to get a table, as I only booked 1 hour before we arrived, however they were not busy at 6.30 when I booked. As the weather was good everyone wanted to eat outside, they have no outdoor seating. We arrived early, but the staff... More

We have been to l'Orignal many times. Our most recent visit was Friday, May 30. On this visit the food was great but the service was disorganized at best. One person received their appetizer and then others waited more than 20 minutes for theirs; server was unaware the first appetizer had been delivered to our table. Very long wait time... More

This was our first Montreal restaurant experience. It was booked by some friends who eat here every time they visit. I would rate the food as excellent, but I felt the service was a little slow. They did offer us drinks at the end of our meal so it leads me to believe that this isn't the norm. Stop on... More

A lovely little spot on the lower level very close to Place d'Armes. The décor is unusual and sort of like you are in someone's family room. Rustic with wood paneled walls. A young crew of servers are fun and knowledgeable. Interesting specials nightly. A good selection of oysters. Desserts are limited to about 3 nightly... the apple cobbler with... More

Before a long week-end in Montreal I check restaurants within walking distance of out hotel. I became intrigued with L'Orignal's menu. I ordered the green salad, an interesting combination of kale garnished with baby green beans, lintels and grapes. Although the dressing was too salty, the combination of ingredients was good. I had my heart set on rabbit but the... More
