Something Different - Really Moosey

I went to this place because it had a cool moose sign outside and it was recommended by a Canadian colleague. Its a bit quirky and very cozy inside. Good food - but smallish sizes - and friendly attentive service. I had the chicken liver pate which was really good and a salmon dish which was a bit... read more

Food was fantastic here! Menu isn't large, but everything we had was worth the price! We had a starter, main each, cocktail, beer and bottle of wine that came to $200! If I came Back to montreal I would visit again!

nice bar for eating if you're dining alone, friendly staff, creative menu. I had pasta and salad specials - both were delicious.

We had dinner here on a Monday night, it was busy despite the rest of the city being fairly quiet - always a good sign! The food was exceptional! We had the deer chop to share alongside some great cocktails and decent wine. Both the service and the atmosphere were great. We were only in Montreal for one night and... More

L'Orignal is a trendy restaurant in Old Montreal, on a tiny cobble-stoned street. You walk down a few steps to a place with lots of exposed rough-hewn stone, dark wood, and a canoe transformed to a storage shelf above the counter. The decor really works. The place is loud, both with conversation and rock music. The menu is especially oriented... More

This place was great, intimate dinning experience and great food. We rang in the new year here and the food was impressive, something like 13 separate courses were part of the menu they were serving that night and they were all delicious. I loved how they took traditional Canadian cuisine and twisted it into something new. The house cocktails for... More

The food, the music, the drinks, the ambiance. Fantastique. The oysters. Please get them. We had venison tartare and the pork chop. Sublime. The profiteroles were outstanding. This restaurant is an experience. We hope you have the pleasure of meeting Caroline. She made our evening. She was very knowledgable about the food and wine. And so charming that by the... More

A very Quebecois menu, with plenty of game of one variety or another (it’s called “the Moose” after all). Sampled were venison tartare (excellent), quail (terrific) and rabbit (also excellent). The place was recommended to us, and it didn’t fail to please. The service was attentive and friendly. The cozy atmosphere was somewhat pub-like, the food was well above what... More

This food is good for winter in Montreal. The menu changes daily and is based on what arrives in the kitchen only moments before (although there are some staples). I can't give is 5 stars because my order was typed in incorrectly, so the braised duck my fellow diner and I were to share was mistakenly entered into the system... More

We were recommended to visit this restaurant by business colleagues who live in Montreal. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived and laughed when they asked if we had a booking. 30 min later it was packed and realized how silly we were for laughing. The service was nothing short of 5 stars. If I could give it more... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
