O . M . G .

Is it just me? I don't think so. If it's possible to be addicted to food, the namesake pastry kouign amann is surely crack. Do not resist. Do not try to pronounce it if you don't speak French. Just order it. The whole one. And prepare to be awed.

So today I would like to share my grievance with Patisserie Au Kouign Amann on Mont Royal street. Right before leaving Montreal I decided to buy a croissant fromage from them, but never got the chance to eat it. Thank god I didn't, because today as I bit into this croissant I crunched on three pieces of glass. I was... More

This place is a true hole in the wall bakery. As soon as you open the door, you are greeted by the mouth watering scent of fresh croissants. Several pastry chefs can be seen working dough and pulling trays of hot baked items from ovens. The two people I spoke to at the cash register were very friendly and took... More

Found this little spot after a friend recommended it. Variety of freshly baked items is much smaller than some of the larger, well known patisseries, but the kouign amann are mouthwateringly delicious!

The good: Everything is in the title! Excellent Kouign-Amann, croissants, tarts, sandwiches, etc. Very good coffee too (espresso, etc.) Food of high quality . The "less good" now: Unfortunately, absolutely not convenient to stay there a while. Same situation as 10 years ago. I understand the place is tiny, but there's no REAL effort to improve things.

The best croissant I have ever had! (and for what is worth I am French!) I will definitely come back next time I'm in Montreal :-)

Croissant, pain au chocolat, etc...all look amazingly delicious. Though we couldn't try the Kouign Amann (was sold out very early), we enjoyed other pastries. Be mindful this is more of a shop than a place to seat-in (only a couple of tables and chairs), so better go there during week days if you expect to eat in and relax.

Seldom do i rave about pastry particularly because i don't have a sweet tooth. But the Kougin Amann is so amazing, upon the first bite, i wanted to just buy a few more slices. Kougin Amann is a butter and sugar pastry. The ingredients are simple but yet it is very addictive. I also tried the almond croissant which i... More

Get there early, the place fills up quickly, and easily. Definitely worth the wait, I ate THE most perfect croissant of my life, fresh out of the oven. PURE HEAVENLY JOY.

This place is super tiny, but so, so good. They have the most amazing pastry called kouign amann. I'd never heard of it before, but one bite and it quickly became my new favorite. It's the perfect blend of butter, flaky layers and sweetness. Just heavenly. It's worth a trip there just to get this one thing, but everything else... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
