The Kougin Amann is amazing!

Seldom do i rave about pastry particularly because i don't have a sweet tooth. But the Kougin Amann is so amazing, upon the first bite, i wanted to just buy a few more slices. Kougin Amann is a butter and sugar pastry. The ingredients are simple but yet it is very addictive. I also tried the almond... read more

Get there early, the place fills up quickly, and easily. Definitely worth the wait, I ate THE most perfect croissant of my life, fresh out of the oven. PURE HEAVENLY JOY.

This place is super tiny, but so, so good. They have the most amazing pastry called kouign amann. I'd never heard of it before, but one bite and it quickly became my new favorite. It's the perfect blend of butter, flaky layers and sweetness. Just heavenly. It's worth a trip there just to get this one thing, but everything else... More

This pastry shop is one of my favourites in Montreal. Eating a fresh, warm slice of kouign amann is like taking a bite out of heaven. The salty, crunchy caramel outside perfectly offsets the sweet, moist, and soft inside. Their quiches are quite savoury, and their tartelettes are a delicious alternative to kouign amann if you're unlucky enough to get... More

We were staying in at the Embassy Suites near old Montreal and we were craving a croissant the Sunday morning of our departure. We researched multiple sites and decided to make the 3.5 KM walk to Patisserie Kouign Amann......a wise choice indeed. Not simply b/c we needed to burn as many calories as possible before diving into the bakery's tasty... More

The house specialty was this layered pastry that we waited to eat fresh from the oven. It was very good but the standout was the cheese croissant. It was flaky and Friday in the outside, with slightly burnt edges. I'd recommend that over anything else. The staff was extremely friendly.

Cute place with 3 small tables, excellent coffee. What they call a fruit Danish is fabulous though not the style we find in New York. This version is more cake-like. The kouign amman (say " koo-ee ah-Mahn") is NOT the Breton pastry known in France. The day we went the pastry was under cooked, as were the croissants--interior dough was... More

Whatever they think they are making here, it isn't kouign amann. It is doughy, under baked, and generally unpleasant. If you have had the real thing, you will hate this. The croissants are extremely raw tasting and inedible. We both spit out our one bite it was so bad. Don't go.

I could smell the pastries before I even got to the door. The kouign amman was so good, and only 1.95; if I was a college student in Montreal I'd be frequenting this place so much. It's also great as a quaint bakery with the chefs behind the main cashier making all the pastries. I loved everything about the place,... More

Tried the kouign amann. It was great, not too sweet not too heavy, like a cake with a light caramel crust on it. Just a few little tables.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
