Watch your wine at Vago

Great food but don't trust them on the wine by the glass. Have them pour it for you at the table so you can see the bottle. They intentionally gave me another wine than what I asked. I knew it wasnt the expensive Italian I ordered, it was a lesser quality Californian. When I asked to see the... read more

It has taken me a while to find the words and write about our experience. In fairness, previous experiences at this restaurant were much better. The good is above average, but pricey. One Saturday evening we booked this restaurant before a hockey game. We had a nice dinner, then two of our party left for the game at 6:45 pm... More

Stopped at this restaurant quite by chance one cold winter night with my wife. And we are glad that we did! Heard from friends how good it wad and wanted to try it for ourselves. We sat at their small bar (our choice), were eerved by the very knowledgeable bartendress and had a wonderful time. The martini was excellent as... More

I dined at Vago as a part of a larger group for a special event. Overall I found the food to be average at best. The many appetizers we shared were good, but the main course (veal) was extremely thin, almost like a small cardstock, and covered in a soup of cream. I actually had to keep pushing the sauce... Always a good meal. This time Italian Jambalaya a wonderful taste adventure. Martini perfectly made. Wait staff almost too attentive. Fast service and courses brought too quickly. Ask them to slow down! Wine a bit pricey. Cook is a good Italian chef and does a few experiments as mentioned above. Give them a try.

If you want an upscale italian meal surrounded by attentive staff and like minded foodies, this is the place. Not only do they have wonderful specials, but they will make changes to the dish to please your palate. Reservations are a must since they have so many regulars who meet and greet each other like long lost family. The veal chop... More

I went there for a business meeting, and had a private room in the back. The appetizers were pretty standard - calamari (fried) and smoked salmon plates. These were not very special, and the calamari could have used some salt. The grilled octopus was much better and tasted great. Garden salad was just that. The mains - the filet of... More

I have been there a couple of times for lunch. I enjoy their menu, it offers good traditional Italian food, great portions, and excellent service. Their bruschettas are delicious!!!

Our bridge group (4 ladies) had our spring lunch at Vago. We all enjoyed our meals. From Pasta to Veal. Nicely presented and pleasant staff. But an expensive lunch.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
