Real Korean Cuisine on a Budget

I worked in Korea many years ago and the food at Chez Bong brings back pleasant memories. I started with Kimchi and the Gun Mandoo, fried vegetable and meat dumplings, which were deep fried and crispy, large and a little bland, but there was enough for two people to share. I was interested in... read more

Chez Bong is one of my favorite 'go to' restaurants in Montreal. I used to work near it so I went often. Now it is an occasional treat, but I do miss it. Had my usual tonight. Fried Dumplings #2 and BBQ Pork #26. It was perfect as usual. The kitchen can be a little slow if the place is... More

Delicious authentic Korean cuisine! The dumplings are delectable treats coming in fried or steamed options. great for sharing. Don't let teh mom and pop shabby decor fool you the food is delicious. The pancakes had an incredible crunchiness that added to the flavour. Great portion size. I ordered the japchae and was not disappointed. Not greasy. great vegetable, meat and... More

This lovely Korean restaurant never disappoints! Tonight we had the Kimchi soup and kimchi and pork stir-fry. Service was friendly and ambiance relaxed and fun.

A truly wonderful lunch at very reasonable price. The vegetable soup was delightfully spicy. The bulgogi was so tasty. The meat was truly tender. Really enjoyed it.

I ate Tan soo yook and Jajangmyun at Chez Bong. So disappointed.
Because it took over an hour to find this restaurant at the Chinatown, my family had high expectation that we would finally eat a delicious Tan sook yook and Jajangmyun, Korean style Chinese dishes in Montreal.

Particularly, Jajangmyung is too expensive with the small portion. The noodle was... More

A good friend of mine showed me this place some time ago. I always love going there, #27 on the menu is what I always take. If you think of taking an entree with meal, think twice the portions are very big! Never dispoainted though

My wife's Korean and when travelling, we always strive to find the most authentic and yummi Korean restaurants around the world. LA's Koreatown (e.g. Soot Bull Jeep) sets the standard, we measure to and CHEZ BONG lives up to this standard in every way. Marvelous Galbi, great Banchan and an amazing spicy pork dish will make us return tonight for... More

We had Tansuuk, Bibimpab and soup. They don't give you a lot of side dishes like kimchi, but the food taste excellent, like at home. The dough on tansuuk is so delicious very chewy as I like. It is not an average Korean food. Prices are very cheap. We were going to have second lunch at Pho place, but stumbled... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighborhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centers, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
