Great food - with attitdue

The food was superb (there is a reason why they are featured as the must go in Montreal), staff were rude and condescending. Again the place was packed and seemed to be packed all the time, so they don’t need to be nice. In the end we decided just to take out our sandwiches and go eat them on the... read more

I had seen recommendations for this place in guidebooks and originally planned to try it for a takeout lunch, but when my husband and I discovered that breakfast was not included in our hotel rate, we decided to have breakfast at Olive & Gourmando the first morning since it was close to the hotel. We enjoyed it enough to come... More

Went for lunch having read a recommendation on where to eat in Montreal. Really busy establishment. Our name was taken and we were told to come back in 25-30 mins for table which suited us. Got back and we were seated accordingly. Shared two types of sandwiches and had the local brew to drink from a microbrewery in Montreal, inexpensive... More

I will admit I am a coffee freak. In the search for a fantastic latte we stumbled on Olive & Gourmando and we were blown away. The ambiance is very nice and the owner has taken incredible lengths to devise a menu that is extremely creative. My wife and I had a poached egg panini with sriracha that was fantastic.... More

If you're looking for brunch (or lunch) in a restaurant that's as crowded as a sardine can - you've found the right place. The staff routinely barks orders at customers and physically pushes them aside without so much as an "excuse me" as customers wait in line to be seated or pay their bills. The only thing that's guaranteed, is... More

Arrived at 2.30pm. Very busy. We waited for about ten minutes to be seated. Service was good. I had the home made re cotta cheese. The predominant herb was dill and it was served with a lovely dressing over a french bean salad. My husband had the #24 salad which he said was the best salad he had ever eaten.... More

This was brunch for us as we got up late but for this restaurant it was still breakfast. Menu was a bit limited but all that they made was excellent. Only 1 egg dish which was disappointing as it was spicy. All else was very good but not a 5 star as it was too easy to not find anything... More

Lovely atmosphere and staff. Stopped in quickly and enjoyed a raspberry and lime lemonade and a tea. Very good service and the cakes looked delicious!

My wife and I read about this gem on Tripadvisor and we were really looking forward to it since it was right by our hotel. O&G has the best paninis in town. All of the ingredients were super fresh and the bread was out of this world. It was a beautiful day out and the windows were opened to make... More

We had the squash soup and a sandwich and what may be the best hot dog in the universe. Plan to wait - but it's worth it! I would definitely return

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
