A very good meal

Busy place, had to wait to be seated but definitely worth the wait. Service was excellent. Menu had interesting choices, and we were very pleased with our food.

At lunchtime on Friday we had to wait 20 minutes outside - glad it was not raining - to be seated at a countertop. Great service and wonderful food, well prepared! Not inexpensive, but would like to return.

Friend took me here a few days ago. I had the vegitarian Chili. Awesome. She has a salad and loved it. I have to go back to try everything on the menu. It all looked so good. Wait was about 1/2 hour on a Saturday at 1 pm. Well worth it! Place is small, quaint and cozy. It was packed... More

Hungry? This place will quench your hunger, hands down. Many times here, still awesome. Had the Cuban, with the soup and brought some business colleagues. They said they will be back. No kidding, best sandwich in Montreal. Enjoy and be early, or be prepared to wait in line!

Only the best sandwich I've ever had! Yes, you'll wait a while but it's well worth the wait (as we were told by another customer leaving while we waited). Served hot and loaded with amazing flavour, it definitely leaves you wishing there was more. We'll be back, great little spot.

I came to Olive et Gourmando on my first day in Montreal after reading reviews online. I was by myself and got a seat straight away at about 2pm on a Wednesday. I decided to sample a bit of everything and went with the homemade cauliflower soup, croissant au fromage and a mocha. Everything was amazing - the best soup,... More

Wonderful tea selection, good coffee and fabulous pastries made this place worthwhile. Unfortunately, the waitress was impatient and let us know that she was when our group of 5 wasn't quite ready to order. It was a bit awkward but maybe this is typical for service in Montreal.

Our hotel was on the same street as this trendy foody place to eat so we happened upon it by chance. I peered inside through the windows and once we were back to the hotel I "googled" it. It immediately became our next day's lunch stop! Unfortunately, you can't make a reservation. You just have to show up, give your... More

used this as a lunch stop while in Montreal for a few days. Great pannini's and soups. If in the area make sure you stop in.

Yes, it's crowded. Yes, it's a bit pricey for lunch. BUT so worth it. Had soup that was the best I ever had...so many different ingredients blended to a delicious science. Bread and sandwiches are fresh and fantastic. I saw some sort of ricotta cheese spread at a neighboring table that will be on mine on my next visit. If... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
