We were here as part of the Jewish Food Tour, out on by Round Table Tours, met the owner, who was great, and had a tasting plate of the chopped liver, smoked salmon and the smoked meat sandwich. I hate liver, but ate a bite of it here, and didn't mind it, I think if you like liver, you would... More

I am a regular at Schwartz deli... but I thought I would give Lester's a try. They've been around for a long time but I just never found the opportunity to go, until recently. The bottom line: their smoke meat is similar to all other franchise (Dunn's, Chenoys, Nickels, Reubens, Bens, etc...) - that is, the meat is gelatinous ;... More

Lester' s is a long established purveyor of smoked meat but in my many years of visiting Montreal this was my first visit. The decor is shabby but you don't come for that. Come for the smoked meat! It's tender and tasty. Be advised: sandwiches come with mustard so if you don't like it be sure to ask before you... More

We had a great trip here - I've never had smoked meat before but my grandma who grew up in the area declared it the best smoked meat she's ever had. We had no problems with the service. They took our order quickly and the food arrived within minutes. All waitresses were very polite and friendly.

I can appreciate a cocky waitress as much as the next person, but this girl was a b.....She seemed really put out and stressed even though the place wasn't busy. She was nasty to the other employees in front of everyone and the food was nothing special.

Tonight, I stopped by the Days Inn location for dinner. It took my friend and I a long time to get our orders taken and even longer until we got water, which came out around the same time as our food did. We never got drink refills and had to get our waiter's attention in order for him to even... More

You know smoked meat is very famous in Montreal and Lester's Deli is not the most famous one. (You have to wait at least half an hour at the famous one, Schwartz's) Lester's smoked meat sandwiches are OK (But not perfect), owners deal with preparing meals personally which is good. The problem is service. There are a couple of old... More

I wanted to like it. I really did. I grew up on deli. There isn't a smoked meat (or pastrami) of note that I haven't eaten a hundred pounds of. Lester's isn't real -- it's pinkish and slimy and overly salty and probably shoulder cut rather than brisket. A slight notch above Nickels, if you catch my drift. Save your... More

Staying in Outremont

Neighborhood Profile
Outremont
Outremont, a quaint residential district just north of Downtown, is a peaceful, low-key setting known for its mod cafes and bistros, and some of the best walking territory Montreal has to offer. Visitors can explore the flowering parks and manor estates of Maplewood Street, then window-shop the popular bakeries and coffeehouses on main arteries of Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine and Rue Van Horne. The modern granola feel is complemented by contemporary art exhibitions, rotating theater productions, and a welcoming public library. Also a nexus for the city's Hasidic Jewish culture, Outremont's diversity resounds in its cuisine and in its architecture. Visit the colorful neighborhood to take advantage of boutique shopping on Avenue Laurier, or to test the artisanal flavors of Avenue Bernard, braving a salmon burger on a squid-ink bun or accommodating your sweet tooth with a provincial chômeur pudding. A visit to Outremont is a relaxing day.
