Good Food, Good Company

We enjoyed a number of meals at Chez Paesano during Grand Prix Week. Peter lured us up the stairs for pizza and then we returned 2 more times for dinner. The food was fresh and good, the view was great, the atmosphere was festive. When we return to Montreal we will definitely eat here again.

Great terrace location overlooking the street. Without question, the best calamari. The business group I was with all concurred that the calamari was one of the best any of us ever had. The marinara was slightly chunky and perfect for it. We had a variety of entrees: - Veal chop: A little tough, large portion, flavorful - Filet: Huge, delicious... More

I am surprised at the negative reviews for Chez Paesano. My husband and I visit Montreal 3 or 4 times a year and have eaten here every time for the past 4 or 5 years. The experience has been nothing short of excellent each time. We stumbled upon the restaurant on the first floor on our first trip, and one... More

Undoubtedly Chez Paesano is surrounded by some great eclectic restaurants on the bustling Rue St Denis, which should raise the bar. But it appears happy with just being average. Which is a shame because it has a lot going for it. Instead, it over-promises and under-delivers. It's a 2nd floor restaurant, so there's a waiter at street level offering menus... More

We visited starters was excellent, but the veil was over sold certainly not worth $200 inc tip for 4, and no sweets The other thing price included the tip so you could not give what you felt was correct, when asked for receipt took 20 minutes... Would not return could have got the same in Bella Italia better and cheaper,... More

We received friendly and prompt service from this restaurant which feels family run. The food was not gourmet but it was good basic Italian food reasonably priced. All in all an enjoyable experience.

We enjoyed the second level terrace seating as we waited for dinner. We arrived right before sundown so the streets were undergoing the "night life" transition. Food was OK. Not the kind of italian meal you will find throughout Little Italy in NYC and other US cities. It was just OK. Service was fine. Wine was tasty and priced correctly.... More

We had dinner in this fast paced Italian restaurant. The owner/father and his very friendly son squeezed us into this theatre district restaurant. Great pasta and very friendly banter. Like we had lived in the neighborhood for years. We would certainly return.

My husband and I were a little pressured as we read the menu downstairs but it looked OK so we went up. The view from our table was great. From above we could watch the people and the traffic on Rue St. Denis. But that is the only good thing about our experience. They got my order wrong and had... More

Staying in Quartier des Spectacles

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier des Spectacles
The bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theaters, and exhibition centers are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.
