House specialty: caloried

Between giant plates piled high and fried and cheese-smothered meats of all varieties, it's hard to order anything off their also giant menu less than 2000 calories. I've never seen 14 versions of poutine before. It did taste OK though, and our server was attentive on a moderately busy evening.

Seems to be a local favorite and the portions are huge. The service was great and we had a great time.

Food was good with large portions. Disappointed that an ale house wouldn't have local craft beers. Service was quick and friendly. Food was typical tavern fair but better than average.

I had a local meal that was called Poutine that was so good. There are so many choices of Poutine I couldn't decide! They had a large variety of local beers. The wait staff was kind and helpful. They have a relaxing atmosphere.

Doc was a great host. Was a little disappointed in the steak & scallop special as I thought the scallops would be fresh but they were battered and deep fried.

This used to be a place I would be sure to visit on every trip to Charlottetown, but the last visit i had was the LAST visit. Went through three of their poutines before they offered something even close to being good, and the wait staff made me feel like a heal for reordering...even after I showed apprehension AND appreciation.... We arrived in the city of Charlottetown early evening and immediately went to one of our past haunts, the Hunter's Ale House. It is not 5-star, nor does it pretend to be, but you can always be assured that you will get a friendly welcome and the food is good. My wife started with her usual glass of Pinot Grigio... More

We wandered into Hunters after a long day of travelling from NS. To the delight of two of my companions there was a steak and lobster special for $19.99. I had a yummy burger and we had our first taste of fresh cut PEI fries. A large variety of beer on tap Stayed late playing Name that Tune Trivia. A... More

My two boys, mother, father and I went here on a busy Saturday evening. We were seated and had drinks within minutes. We were told our food would be a 45 minute wait but received it within 1/2 an hour. From salad to steak to grilled cheese sandwich, we all enjoyed our meals. Very friendly atmosphere!!
