Descent food, bad service

The food is descent, the patio is pet friendly, which is great in summer time, but unfortunately the service is bad. Only 1 out of 3 waitresses is good

We had an early evening meal in the outside section at Whitlock's. The staff were all very friendly and made excellent beer recommendations. We ordered two sales, a jumbalaya and chicken burgers - all were very good. Other customers all seemed content too.

The patio provided us with the entertainment. Nothings as interesting as to watch life on Queen Street. The service was good . That evening we choose the special, Blackened Salmon, it was delicious. Spicy but just enough to taste the salmon , not overcooked either. Panko crusted stuffed chicken was also good. There are many wines you can choose from.... More

Travelled from Bowmanville to eat here on the coldest day of the year, very good selection for brunch, omelettes and waffles while you wait, salads, hot food-fish, sausages, potatoes, pancakes, beef stroganoff, poached eggs on smoked salmon, apple crumble, jello, fresh fruit, variety of pies.....not breathtaking BUT the variety and service are consistent and the coffee is good....suggest go early.

I love this restaurant. I come for the Belgian Waffles smothered in blueberry sauce and whip cream and the omelette made to my specifications. The choice of food is excellent and the food is always good. There is a choice of juice... apple, orange and cranberry (included) while coffee and tea are extra. There is fruit, choice of bread (croissants... More

my first visit was over 25 years ago. Went several times, so, when I saw it was still open, went again. Same owners, I was told. We went during appy hour, $5 choices off the menu between 4 and 6. Soup, spring rolls and crab cakes were all OK, but nothing special. My daughter really enjoyed the mussels, huge serving... More

Had lunch today (special Lasagna and Caesar Salad) and have to say for the price charged ( C$ 10) it was pretty good. A nice large piece of Lasagna with a lot of tasty cheese and a good portion of caesar salad. (The Caesar came out of a bottle but still was ok) The other lunch ordered on my table... More

A friend and I came here as we wanted to sit on a patio and have a salad. Whitlocks has both. And quite a salad selection at that. I was impressed by the quantity and options presented. Prices are reasonable, service was good and the food was tasty, too.

The salad which arrived at the table bore little resemblance to that on the menu: they had added probably a full can (yes 'can', as in tin...) of mini shrimps (the tasteless variety), apparently a 'bonus', a deviation from the menu; the avocado ran the gamut of too ripe to too 'green', and the whole mess was drowned in a... This is one of the better patio's in the Beaches, and the front windows left open are a great seat to see the world walk by. The food seems to be prepared in house, rather than contracted out to a distributor and brought in for reheating (a Beaches norm), which is a good start. The owners call the menu eclectic.... More

Staying in East End

Neighborhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
