Tiny place with big flavor

I love sushi and this place did not disappoint. We decided to try it based on the TripAdvisor reviews. I was surprised to see how small the place is and how busy. Must have caught them on an off day because the service was top notch. Sure they'll never be your best pals but helpful and efficient they very much were. As for the food, everything you've read about. Original and very tasty.

A few coworkers and I went to dinner after work in the hopes of trying out the food. We made reservations for 6 at 6:00 pm. However, when we entered, we were given 4 seats (instead of 6) and two of us were asked to sit at other tables until he placed another table next to our group. It didn't... More

I requested special meal of Negitoro Don (green onion with chopped tuna on rice), they've never heard of it and asked for $40. I showed them the menu I had in Japan which showed the rice was ¥750 Japanese Yen (approx. $7.5 Cdn), and the response is "it's not on our menu, so we can charge whatever we want". SO... More

Loved the sushi but service was horrible. It was our first time there, so we needed to ask how their menu works...The waiter told me off saying we are only allowed two questions at a time... But he left after I asked once question. And came back 10 mins later for my second question. Lol served us in rush and... More

I am in love with Japango! It is a very unassuming place - one you may even walk by all the time without ever realizing it's there. The food is authentic, extremely fresh, and has yet to disappoint me in the slightest. The sashimi lunch one (my usual order) is extremely fresh, and always has a beautiful presentation... And my... Stopped by Japango for lunch. The space was very small and cozy, as well as busy. The food was good and authentic, portion was small and thus expensive for what was served. The service felt rush and don't expect personal space in this tiny restaurant. Worth a try but with many good restaurants in the city, not sure I would... More

We were 2 adults and 2 kids, no reservation. We waited 5 minutes to get a table. The sushi were very good, very traditional. The service was quick (maybe too quick) but a very good meal.

I really want to give this place a 5/5 for the food - seriously the chefs know their sushi here. I had been here a couple times and loved the food. BUT the owner, at least I think it was the owner, was so incredibly rude the third time I came in that I can't see myself ever going back.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
