Amazing!

Wow. Jean's is simply amazing. Yes, they specialize in vegan food; however, and this is a big however, even meat eaters will love this place. I am vegetarian, and was taken to Jean's by veggie friends, but I was so impressed I returned the next night with 2 meat eaters. They were leery, to say... read more

Awesome. I am not a vegetarian by any means it I try to get to the restaurant at least once a year while visiting friends in Toronto. It is delicious and inexpensive.

I am still dreaming about the papaya salad. The Sweet and Sour Chicken (mock) was delicious. Seriously! How do they make mock chicken taste like that? This place is fantastic! The prices are low, the service is friendly and the food is just fantastic! I am not a vegetarian, but this food is so satisfying and delicious I didn't miss... More

We go to this great local vegan resto at least once a month. Son and family are vegan and if we don't feel like cooking, we head to Jean's. Pumpkin soup, taro rolls, vegetable baskets, mango salad for starters, then green curry with mock shrimp for me, Malaysian curry eggplant for son and daughter in law. The atmosphere is casual, very... I have had the pleasure of going to Jean's Vegetarian Kitchen on many occasions. It is, without a doubt, the best vegetarian restaurant in Toronto. I would think Fresh (multiple locations) is likely the second best, but a distant second to this place. The food is EXCELLENT - I can't emphasize that enough. You will not go wrong in this... More

To be a vegan is not easy nowadays (its my opinion). However, this restaurant has one of the best taste that I ever had in my life! I do miss this place!

So we were driving past the area and I was ravenous! I had turned down a few suggestions and then suddenly remembered Jean's (back from the Jean's Fine Food Catering days)! We went in arrived at 4:00 - didn't realize until after we were greeted and seated that they didn't actually open until 4:30. I apologized and asked the manager... More

The exterior facing The Danforth, and even the interior of the restaurant, is nothing special, but Jean's is our favourite neighbourhood restaurant. Over the last couple of years, we've narrowed down to a handful of items that are always consistently good and to our taste - the mango salad, the hokien me, the radnah, the tapioca pudding. This is comfort... More

I ate dinner here with two friends on a weeknight. We had the salad rolls to start. I had tofu stir-fry, one friend had pad thai and the other had eggplant. They also offer "mock" chicken, shrimp, etc. but since I'm not really a vegan, I passed on the "mock." We all shared and the food was all really good.... More

After a couple of false starts in the service (didn't take all the drink orders, served mineral water with tap water ice, one dish served well before the rest of the table) the food was tasty and filling. Don't expect any sort of spice; the hot and sour soup was physically hot but very bland and their "spicier" curry had... More

Staying in East York

Neighborhood Profile
East York
East York includes a portion of old, industrial Toronto. Densely populated but incredibly safe, it boasts some of the city's earliest gardens and gardening clubs, attracting green thumbs everywhere. The tranquility of the Don Valley River area, which is rich with Toronto's oldest and tallest forests, is supplemented by the large ensemble of authentic and refurbished Edwardian homes, giving parts of East York allure. The other draw is for foodies: lovers of Bangladeshi fare will find authentic restaurants and markets in the area, with raw spices and desserts. East York also represents a lot of Toronto's Serbian food culture, and recently, has had an outcropping of solid microbrewery stops. For families, the science center is a favored weekend stop.
