Above average oknomiyaki

Been coming here since 1996 upon recommendation from a friend. Service is great and attentive. Quality of okonomiyaki is pretty decent considering most Toronto's subpar level Japanese restaurants scenes dominated by Korean and Chinese expats from HK. Hello ! Was there just moments ago, so here's the review! Service is friendly and quick, food is alright! I had a beef okonomiyaki and a tea, just fine. My husband had an okono and a noodle soup - the noodle soup looked just like an instant one i could have bought at the supermarket. So i recommend you just... More

Perhaps a product of my having come back recently from Osaka where Okonomiyaki is a real speciality, I found this place subpar. The food preparation seemed rushed and I was surprised that it came slathered in A1 Steak Sauce. I had a handful of appetizers as well that were forgettable. To balance out the review, the restaurant came highly recommended... More

One of my favourite places to get a quick bite in Toronto. My faves are Okonomi Yaki and Yakisoba. I get both everytime. I love the leftovers as well. Great prices, good food, and friendly service. I go about 2 times a month.

I was in Japan many years ago and my favorite meal was Okonomi Yaki( Japanese pancake) . I am glad that I found that restaurant. I live about 600 km from Toronto but I try to go eat at this restaurant once a year. Food is good and fresh. Don t expect sushi there. Okonomi Yaki and Yakisoba are good... More

We liked this place so much on our first visit that we went back a few days later. The service is excellent, efficient and friendly, and the prices are fantastic for the area. On the first trip we had the chicken okonomiyaki and a chicken teriyaki: both dishes were very good and came within 5 minutes. The restaurant was quite... More

While kicking around Toronto on a mid-week holiday during mid-August 2013, my wife and I happened onto the Okonomi House. Each of us are natives of the Midwestern USA and we had never encountered okonomiyaki before, but the location in Toronto was just what we needed (near the Panasonic Theatre). We read several reviews on TripAdvisor and understood the food... More

It's hard to find Kansai cuisine in Toronto, so this restaurant unique. Service is efficient and fast, as far as I can tell they are very authentic (they have some Canadianized version of Okonomiyaki too). The prices are very fair as everything comes to less than $12 with tax and tip

Great reasonably priced option for authentic Japanese food. For those who know their washoku, this is a place to get authentic okonomiyaki at a place that specializes in it. Don't go expecting sushi and teriyaki. They also have a selection of sake, shu-hai and Japanese beer. Great location-- in the heart of downtown, but tucked away from the hustle and... More

In an era where so much is changing so quickly the Okonomi House stands isolated seemingly immune to the whirlwind of time. I've been coming here for decades and it is consistently delicious, filling and priced so that it is nearly always full of nearby University students and the the older once university students that now come with their families.... Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
