One of a Kind

We ate here during our stay at the attached boutique hotel, the Ivy at Verity, which is an excellent way to get a deal on dinner at the otherwise very expensive George. These days preparation of excellent food is pretty easy for anyone interested in doing so. For any restaurant to be superior it needs everything going for it. Setting and service are important. George is a winner here. the quality of the food, preparation and presentation are exceptional. Above all the flavors and textures of individual items and the relationship of... More

The restaurant had a very pleasant, cozy feel to it. And with all the hype I was worried there might be some pretense- and there was none. All the dishes to be completely unique and very interesting. Portion size were a bit small and this can be a pricey meal. I must comment that I have rarely seen a place... More

We celebrated our son's birthday here. We were each presented with a different dish for each course. The food is beautifully presented and is innovative. My husband and son liked their meal, but I wasn't crazy about mine. Mine had some spices that I did not like. I enjoyed Yours Truly more, but unfortunately Yours truly has now closed.

First of all, I should start off by saying that when you go to George, you should plan for it to be a special dinner, as the tasting menu with drinks can be pricey, BUT you certainly get what you pay for. My husband and I went to George for our 5th Anniversary, and we were not disappointed. We had... More

We found the food very tasteful expertly paired with wines that we would not have otherwise ever thought trying. We had been to a similar restaurant before with the difference that we were then both eating the same dishes per course; while at George Restaurant for each course we ended up being served different dishes allowing for double the pleasure... Saturday night I brought a chef who was visit from overseas to try what I thought would be one of the best restaurants in Toronto. We ordered the 10 course and vegetarian tasting menus. Our waiters and servers all seamed nervous, did not speak clearly, and their food descriptions seemed very scripted. Overall they seemed inexperienced with low confidence. The... More

Incredible dinner there the other night. We both had the 7 course meal with wine pairings. I am very fussy (no lamb, no duck, only shrimp, no pork) so the server worked with the chef to create offerings that were splendid! Very knowledgable staff. Make great suggestions. They timed the meal for us as we had something to attend. Everything... More

We had dinner here recently for the first time, and found it to be underwhelming to say the least. The food is just too complicated - too many nits and lice all over the dishes, which were visually uninteresting. I was stabbed in the gums by a piece of artichoke that never should have made it out of the kitchen.... More

Threw caution to the wind and tried the tasting menu with wine pairings. Sommelier was endearingly earnest with his flavour descriptions, and the paired meal was astonishingly delicious- so many different flavour elements on each plate! The meats were cooked to perfection. Ambiance is classic, dark grey, with a touch of goth, and clientele seems upscale businessy.
