Went here for breakfast as recommended and we were not disappointed. The staff member serving us was really friendly and helpful, the food was great. Will definitely drop by again before we leave Toronto.

Went for the first time, and it won't be the last! The place was packed but we were seated quickly and the staff was very friendly and courteous. Food came quickly and was hot and fresh and so plentiful that two of us could have shared a meal. There was nothing negative that I can say about Fran's!

Am actually there now, so sad last week the onion soup was good, today it's mostly beige water with burnt cheese and cream cheese!??? Yes cream cheese, sorry guys but please stick to the recipe and try new things before you offer them to customers. Really bad onion soup today :(

Stopped here for some late night eats, since everything else was closed. The food was incredibly flat and disappointing. The cheese on my sandwich was hard and dried on like it was stale. The dip for my sweet potato fries was the worst I have had anywhere and it was in a tiny little cup barely big enough for a... More

I've only ever eaten here for breakfast, and I've never had a bad one. The service is attentive, even when the place gets crowded -- as it did, unexpectedly, on a Friday morning. The egg dishes are very good, though, if you want meat with it, the bacon is considerably tastier than the sausage. The homefries, clearly, are prepared fresh... More

If you are a 50's lover...this is the best place to go. Great breakfast for a no calories counter! During our stay in Toronto it was the best option to come every morning and take a late breakfast....no need to have lunch later on!

We visited Frans after seeing the reviews and it's closeness to our hotel. It's a great diner with good service and a huge breakfast menu. It was difficult to chose what to eat as I liked the look of so many things. Plenty for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. We all had different kinds of pancake - they were... More

Fran's is a classic 40s style restaurant. The food was really good each of the three times we went in to eat. We were staying at the Holiday Inn a couple hundred meters away on Carlton so this was an easy place to sit and enjoy a breakfast. The price was good, the portions where very nice and the taste... Had breakfast on a Monday morning. Good selection of breakfast choices. Prices reasonable for downtown Toronto. Table for 2 was a bit cramped. Service good.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
