Fran's - A Toronto Institution

We had breakfast on Saturday. The Eggs Florentine had lots of spinach, hot, great hollandaise. Son had waffles and chicken strange combo, but great waffles with real maple syrup. Hubby had waffles with fruit and caramel sauce. Waffles had great flavour - they probably were from a mix, but they sure... read more

I recently stayed in Toronto near College St. and found Fran's. I love diners and was not disappointed. Although it was dinner time, I found myself having a great breakfast. I found out that Fran's has been around for about 75 years. They must be doing something right!!!

This review is incredibly late, but I can't pass up an opportunity to praise this place. I went to Fran's with a group of friends for breakfast during our stay in Toronto. I ordered a pancake dish with blueberries and raspberries, and they were honestly the best pancakes I've ever tasted. The fruit was baked into the pancakes as well... More

I've been to this location several times and had meals from breakfast to dinner. Everything is pretty standard fare, well prepared and what you would expect. Service can be inconsistent but there are good servers working here too. It's always open so fills the gap when you need it!

Pretty good restaurant with some good comfort food. The chili was exceptional and definitely the best part of the meal. Plenty of different offerings for everyone.

Wanted to find someplace to grab a nice big breakfast prior to a late morning meeting. Order the hash and eggs, huge portion, great hash, great potatoes...really enjoyed.

Originally established by FRAN DECK in 1940 at St. Clair and Yonge they used to have other popular mid-town locations but are now down to those listed on their web pages which are worth checking to look over their wide and varied and popular menu before making your first visit ... You will receive large portions and they serve 24-hour... More

Established in the late fifties this brand was known for solid family entertainment. Now in multiple locations the brand is updated and the locations remain friendly. The food is family affordable and many tourists find it a fun destination.

- I've been to this restaurant a number of times and this was the first time taking my boyfriend here and luckily it was the BEST time I have ever gone. - Had the BLT and a breakfast meal and it was so good. Their home fries are my favourite. - Very reasonably priced. - I would recommend to wait... More

Ate there with my family of five on Christmas Eve. Every other place was closing, but not Fran's. The service was fantastic and food was even better. Some of us had breakfast and some had dinner. The rice pudding with raisins was amazingly good.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
