We went to this place a few times for sushi. They have a teppanyaki area as well. The sushi was pretty good. The waitresses were Japanese, the service was excellent. Best Japanese in Yorkville.

Do you know that restaurant where you wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you went and it was closed down? This is it for me! I have been coming here over 10 years, and have been around the world, and this is by far the, freshest, tastiest sushi I've had (like Candy). The staff is supremely friendly, and... More

Being from out-of-town, I was looking for a nice restaurant not too far from the hotel in which I was staying. I was just feeling like having a Japanese meal. Walking around Yorkville my friend and I happened upon the Yamato restaurant and we could see from the street level down that it was crowded with people having teppanyaki -... More

I have been to teppanyaki restaurants before and this was in the same mould but an experience we enjoyed, especially my lad who had no idea what to expect. The service was good, as was the food. Would give it 4.5 if that was an option. Enjoy

We had a nice dinner and everyone liked their meal. It is not a out of this world place for food, but it was good and fairly priced.

Our favorite 'go-to' restaurant in Toronto. For very special occasions, if we are in Toronto, we visit Yamato. We have never had a bad experience. From good tapanyaki chefs to prompt service.......the place has it all. The one minor sticking point: we have a difficulties if we include anyone not totally mobile. (The restaurant is a half floor down with... More

Both regular and tapanyaki cuisines are available. The service is prompt and very friendly. The "sushi pizza" is innovative and delicious. Shirashi and temprua udon were excellent. The view is limited (Yamato is a half story walkdown) but this is definitely a winner. Plan to comeback when in Yorkville.

I have never seen such a great onion volcano. It had a very high flame for an extended period. It was pretty cool. Also dinner was very nice. I had the steak and lobster. The staff was very attentive to my dietary requirements too. It was a nice time. I would say it was a little bit loud in there... More

Got tired of the boutiquey restaurants and teenagers deconstructing plated "farm to table meals" for me in Yorkville; we came here for a sushi/udon noodle soup dinner and enjoyed it very much. Found the sushi to be quite good; don't know what the fuss is about the décor; prices were more than reasonable, wait staff was extremely friendly, no muss,... More

First time we've been here for dinner and it's indeed a good option for a Japanese restaurant in the Yorkville area. Price is reasonable, service is friendly, atmosphere is welcoming for a summer night... nothing special, but a great place to get together and have some good Jap food.
