A Japanese Treasure in the middle of Yorkville!

Delicious and fresh sea food, with fast and kind service! Didn't try Teppanyaki, but seemed a unique experience. Very reasonable price for the food quality. Highly recommended!

I have not been to Yamato for over a year and was so disappointed with my recent experience. The food was average at best and the service was disinterested and weak. We had to request pickled ginger which took a while to arrive, a request for low sodium soya sauce was equally slow. On each occasion, it was very difficult... More

Very entertaining to watch your Japanese food being prepared! And what joy to taste it next... This restaurant has both a sushi bar for quick bites, and a leisurely dining part whereall you choose to eat, is being prepared from scratch.

Our family birthday lunch was made that much more fun as we were fortunate to get Chef Carby who in comparison to the other Teppanyaki Chefs was very entertaining, talkative, singing... while the others were very quiet... many watched his act while forgetting what was being cooked in front of them. The food was excellent, all the seafood and meat... More

Came here in a group of 8 people. The teppanyaki was nice, I had the beef roll which was OK and I also tried the filet mignon which was really good. Next time I would order that. Service was good and price was reasonable.

There are so many good choices in Toronto that are much easier to deal with; why waste time with the unempowered employees at Yamato?

There are a number of Japanese places in Yorkville but this is my favourite. There's a choice of the sushi bar or teppanyaki. Service is fast and friendly, and there's always a good selection of fresh seafood. Quality seems better than the other Japanese spots in the area.

This place is good for people who are not foodies and don't know the difference between authentic Japanese food and commercialized mediocre food.

I was so taken by the freshness and quality and authentic taste of the food on my first visit to Yamato, at which time I was accompanied by a friend, that I took my husband there a few days later. Both times it was for lunch. Both times the service was courteous. We have eaten at a lot of different... More

Its easy to miss this place, tucked into the lower level of a building on Belair, but you don't want to walk by. Especially in summer when they open the windows to the patio, letting in light and fresh air without the heat and noise. The menu isn't particularly original, at least at lunch. There is the usual selection of... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
