Excellent

Went here using travelzoo coupon. Food was excellent. We were given a choice of soups, a platter of apps, choice of main course and dessert. I had steak, 2 others had lamb chops, and another had chicken. We all had garlic mashed and beans with them, except checked had baby bok Choy. Soups we had... read more

Perfectly ok place, but I don't quite get the hyperbolic reviews. I had Orleans salad.....basically a fair bit of arugula with very small amounts of the other ingredients (peach, pecans, feta). Main was Jambalaya.....basically a mound of spiced rice with very small amounts of other ingredients (chicken, sausage, shrimp, vegetables). Service fine, but all a little underwhelming. Maybe the resident... More

Been coming for a decade. Consistently great food and service. Love the Cajon fish dishes, hush puppies and shrimp appetizer. Bourbon Sour worth the trip all by it self.

The food here is amazing and pretty reasonably priced. The setting is unique and fun and feels like New Orleans. Everyone is very friendly and there is always good service. We love the blackened chicken and jambalaya but the sides are usually the best. Their bok choy with the brown sugar sauce is amazing. We got the recipe from them... More

Go for the food. This is as close to New Orleans as you can get in Toronto. The blackened chicken livers are superb with just the right amount of spice. We went for Summerlicious and had both fish and blackened chicken. At $25 it was a bargain. Finally, a really good bread pudding for dessert with a citrus sauce. So... More

Chicken livers. Blackened. Sooooooo Good. I had heard about them long before driving in to Toronto to finally try them (and so much more). Well worth our trip in. Service: charming, funny and informal: just right for what we were looking for in every way: great guidance in choosing from a fantastic menu. I always have a hard time choosing,... More

Went here for Summerlicious and glad we did. Tasty starters, delicious corn bread, interesting cocktails and lovely mains. The host was endearing and the decor just topped it all off. We were seated at a table with a canopy-like tent above us with beads and feathers hanging off the fixtures. Would definitley go back. We were so full leaving!! Great... More

New Orleans French Quarter style restaurant in a lovely old Victorian House. Very close to the Subway so easy to get to. Food was great & the service exceptional. Owned by an Irishman & a lot of the staff were from Ireland. Saw the restaurant advertised in the Toronto magazine & enjoyed it so much we booked a table for... More

Loved the kitschy décor! We did sit indoors although the patio looked wonderful. Our waiter was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu items. We have been to New Orleans and the food here was comparable. We started with the Gumbo and Hushpuppies, went on to Jambalaya, a pasta dish and also blackened salmon. We finished with the amazing Pecan pie... More

Second time, first time was Winterlicious years ago. Turns out my companion had had a birthday party 20 years ago there, and its the same owner.. Great vibe, kitsch decor, we sat on the patio. Maitre d/host very attentive and aware of our time restraints (we had tix for HotDocs which is an easy walk from there). Everything was good,... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
