A few "misses" among the 'hits" at Sassafraz

We have always enjoyed dining at Sassafraz - the setting inside is lovely with a serene, classy decor and the service is impeccable. On the evening of our most recent visit, the restaurant was not too busy, which was nice. We ordered drinks, then a nice bottle of wine along with our food order. The... read more

Stopped in for top notch cocktails street side. Wonderfully crafted pricey drinks. Food is always great. Good for people watching including a $450k Lamborghini parked in front with a "handicap" sticker on the windscreen

Wonderful food, excellent service and very central location in downtown Toronto. The lobster and fried green tomatoes was scrumptious and the bison strip loin was one of the most flavourful steaks I have ever had! Wine list very nice! Would definitely return.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we booked the private balcony table. There is a 100 dollar surcharge but the amount is fully donated to the fire department and you get a tax receipt for it. The sangria is awesome! Portions were right sized and food was exquisite. There was no rush and we spent about two... More

I worked on Cumberland 40 years ago and wanted to take my now-grown-up granddaughter to see what I remembered from the old Yorkville days....she said it was the best meal in the best restaurant she has yet enjoyed...and I (who have travelled the world) was also delighted with the Summerlicious menu, the service and especially the attention we received when... I had a Summerlicious dinner with a friend. The food was well presented and was excellent, even though it was the prix -fixe menu. The service was great also. Highly recommend!

Visited Sassafraz in July 2015, went in for a late lunch around 130pm. Great food, the scallops main was perfectly cooked. We shared 4 appitizers and all were amazing. The only let down was the slow service. They just appeared tired and spent more time at the bar talking to themselves or in the kitchen. Many times we looked up... More

The restaurant is impressive, has candle lights, a table in a balcony (Specially for couples) and a nice wine cellar and water fall. Food is nice, I liked the hen. The only problem is the waiters. Seems to be not so trained.

The atmosphere in this lovely eatery was stunning but it was the food that was the real show stopper. Our steaks were done perfectly with a rich, smokey flavor. Everyone in our party really enjoyed the meal which is really what you hope for in a dining experience.

Love the menu diversity! The quality of food and presentation is superb! The service is VERY professional. Sometimes they have a live pianist which is an added bonus.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
