Great anniversary dinner

We celebrated the 50th anniversary of our engagement with dinner at Portico restaurant. We had excellent service, and the food was wonderfully presented and tasted even better. Pork tenderloin with parsnip was so tasty, as was the mushroom pasta dish. A lovely celebration dinner.

Everything was superb about this place. We really enjoyed the food, service, ambience...Location is perhaps a little off the beaten track but it's worth finding. Mushroom Taglitele was very good. Caesar salad was good too. The service was most impressive.

I arrived first and was immediately taken to our table. The boys arrived shortly afterwards. Our server was prompt and attentive. One son had the soup of the day and Mushroom Tagliatelle which he pronounced delicious. My other son chose the ground chuck burger which, in addition to bacon and smoked cheddar, had arugula and fried egg. He chose the fries... More

The food was very good. The Pad Thai, the Caesar salad (with lots of anchovies and a poached egg) and the hamburger loaded with everything (fried egg, bacon, cheese et al) and the sweet potato fries can be recommended. The sponge cake with cottage cheese filling was bland. There was a nice selection of wines by the glass. Our waiter... More

Thought we would just eat at the restaurant at our hotel and I'm glad we did. Both of our meals were excellent. The service was also top notch. The cost was a bit high but worth paying a bit more for the quality of food and service.

Ate here two nights in a row while staying in the Cambridge Suites. Dining room first night, had the medley of seasonal greens which was really delicious. Grilled peaches and yummy dressing. Good size. Then had the pad thai which was also very good. Very accommodating kitchen to my request for lots of spice. Our waiter was lovely - kind,... More

Our waitress had only been with Portico for 7 years and she was the newbie! We are staying at the Cambridge Suites and after drinks in the bar with some great canapés decided on dinner in the restaurant. What a great decision! We both ordered the Caesar salad as an appetiser however the bowls were so large that they could... More

I just had the soup, and it was very good. Bean with seasonal veggies, and obviously homemade. Yum. Well done. Recommend.

In general the food was average. The service is why I gave an extra star or else it would have been three. The 'famous pad Thai' was okay. But then again, this is not a Thai restaurant. Our server was accommodating for our gluten sensitivities, offering gluten free bread and changing the pad Thai to vegetarian. The chairs were comfortable... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
