Le Papillon on Front is located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. Inside of a beautiful Old Town Toronto building with exposed brick walls and high lofty ceilings sits the beautiful venue for Le Papillon on Front. It's exposed brick is complemented well by the aged hardwood floor and perfectly soft lighting. The venue suggests a lovely mix of romance, comfort, and of course, the classic French bistro atmosphere that has followed Le Papillon to all of its locations. In the warmer months Le Papillon on Front even creeps its way onto Front street, giving a beautiful view of the Flatiron building as well as the CN tower in the distance. With a closed in patio adorned with wonderfully arranged planters you experience a private feel, even while sitting on the heart of Front Street.

A very nice evening

I found this restarant via a Travelzoo voucher and also chose it because of it proximity to our hotel. The building is a lovely old historic building of red brick and high ceilings. There a patio but can be noisy. We chose an inside table. The host at the door is charming and energetic. Some of... read more

We came here for brunch and loved it. We started with appetizers. My wife had the pan seared scallops and I had the smoked salmon, both were excellent. Then I had the Croque Madame and my wife had the daily pasta which was a tagliatelle with beef short ribs, which was delicious and a very generous portion. It was perfect... More

Used to enjoy a reasonably priced unpretentious French meal when I lived in Toronto in the 70s to 90s and was very pleased to see that it was still there and still great when visiting Toronto last week. Their onion soup is still the best and the variety of crepes were good too. Great old brick interior and outsider cafe... More

This was our third or fourth visit to Le Papillon, and we are always pleased with the experience. The Maitre D greats you in French and English as you arrive and the staff is quick to see to your needs. Excellent French cuisine with beautifully designed plates. Good selection of meals and the "table d'hôte" is an economically good way... More

This is a great French spot in Old Town. Unassuming and good food and wine. The price was right for lunch.

My wife and I ate here a few years ago for a lunch and loved it, and returned for a second meal. This trip we came back and found the french onion soup was just as we remembered. Sublime. I mean, I thought the Famous & Barre french onion soup (in St Louis back in the day) was the best... More

Papillon serves French cuisine style. I have been here only once. Our visit was pleasant, and the servers were attentive. I cannot say a lot. It did not impress me enough to come back, but if suggested, i would not be against coming back.

I haven't been to Le Papillon for many years but we were in the area and decided to try it out. Service is great! Much better than other restaurants. Sitting on the patio is great for people watching but was too loud to have a good conversation. Our table of 6 was probably better suited for inside the restaurant. The... More

I was expecting some delicious French food. The chicken was dry, nothing special about the flavour. The best parts of the meal: the cosmos and the spinach soup (really great soup). Would not come here again.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
