Good food

Food is very good but beware of the specials - they are more expensive than you might expect... Veal with shrimps was excellent, as was the gnocchi. Watch the bill - 15% gratuities added...

My wife and I were directed there by our hotel. We sat outside and had a great dinner. The staff was most helpful and both of our entrees were very, very good. While it is not cheap, the food and ambience is outstanding. It is not fancy but the food is worth it. You will not be disappointed.

We asked the concierge for a more traditional Italian restaurant. He booked Donatello's for us. It turned out to be a great restaurant. Great menu and a very good wine selection. My wife had an amazing seafood pasta and I went with the daily special. Both were excellent. The Limoncello liquor was a very good dessert drink. Service was above... More

Have eaten here with my family and as a couple. Every time, service and food are outstanding. Best Italian restaurant in Toronto. The waiter even went next door and brought back a chocolate bar for my young daughter.

In such a touristy location, it's surprising that a quality restaurant exists. Carpaccio, eggplant and caprese appetizers were all tasty. Bread is really crusty on the outside, with soft interior and tasty. Pasta mains were all really good, although the pasta doesn't appear to be house made. Wines are a tad expensive. Service was very good and we enjoyed the... More

We tried Donatello because the menu looked good. We tried 3 appetizers ( Shrimp, Prosciutto/melon, caprese salad ) and 1 entree ( Grilled Shrimp ) Every dish was excellent ( Proscuitto was best ever ). Service was outstanding ( William was excellent ) I would consider this restaurant fine dining with moderate prices.

At a medical conference and someone picked this restaurant. Very pretty building, may have been a house at 1 time. Great wait staff. Very attentive but not overbearing. Able to easily accommodate special dietary needs of several guests. Found the food to be freshly prepared and well-presented. Price a tad high but to be expected in downtown Toronto. A very... More

We had a large party of 12 people coming from out of town. The staff made sure were set up in a private room and our dinner was fabulous. The waiter was attentive, the food was prepared promptly and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Would absolutely go back!!

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
