a primo place but at a primo price

I have been here numerous times, and have generally liked the food and the service. However, the price seems to have accelerated faster than the quality. Not sure that I would make this a regular spot

My wife and I visited this establishment twice in the last year. The first time it was great, service excellent, food spectacular, high end food for a high end price. Was very good. Our second time we were very disappointed. We felt rushed, they were some very loud talking regulars, service was abrupt and seemed more interested in the stories... More

I asked for a recommendation at the hotel for a reasonably priced steakhouse and they suggested Barberian's. While I enjoyed the food and drink, the prices were much higher than I expected to be "reasonable." They divide the restaurant into several rooms which helps keep the noise level down, though I was seated next to a table that had clearly... More

The wine room offers a mezzanine level dining area which we used for a 14 person lunch. This proves an easy ice breaker for all concerned as we admired the wine collection. The service and date proved excellent, with superb steaks and great wine enjoyed by all.

A friend of mine and I decided to celebrate Pride by going to Barberian's Steak House on Elm in Toronto, were had a nice table, the waiter however was not very welcoming to us at all, the food was very mediocre and the service was just short of terrible, they seem to have too much staff that caused one hostess... Being relatively well traveled, we always make a point to visit the best steakhouses wherever we go. Barberians did not disappoint during our recent stay in Toronto. In fact, I would say that it was the top contender thus far. Food was fantastic, service was excellent and the ambiance was great. We had escargot to start, the chateaubriand for two... More

The steaks, including the tuna steak, were cooked to perfection and were complimented by great sides! The decor was a bit dated. The waitstaff was attentive and the wine list very good. There was plenty of food and, although the desserts sounded excellent, none of us could take another bite. I would recommend this to Toronto new comers, although we... More

What a restaurant! Relaxed and very friendly service from the first moment. We started with escargots, very tasty, and the main course was Chateaubriand, super good and tender. Barberian is THE STEAK HOUSE! And of course the wine list and the wine cellar - awesome. We all four left Barberian more than satisfied.

If you are in Toronto and you want a great place to dine (and you know you are on the top of the food chain) this is one place you should visit. Probably one of the best steaks I have had in years

Excellent food (steak was cooked to perfection) and amazing service. Amazing old school vibe to it. The wine cellar is superb too, go see it at least.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
