A great little spot for breakfast!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown on Carlton near the restaurant so this was a factor in our choice. We were quite happy with the food and service. The restaurant was not busy and so this was also a plus. The condition of the restaurant is fair to poor. Although clean, the upholstery on the... read more

From the fast and friendly service to the fresh food and traditional diner favourites, you can't go wrong with this place. All day breakfasts are popular here and they are well known for their Fish and Chips. The Greek salad is awesome.Try The Golden Diner- you won't be disappointed. Once you've been here, you are bound to return.

Go down the steps to the diner and you're greeted with a friendly smile. There are lots of booths. Breakfast is served all day and is a big meal for a low price. The Halibut fish and chips is fantastic, but be prepared wign a big appetite because it comes with a huge gree salad!

Wandering along Carlton on a Sunday morning, I walked right past this place because it looked like a dive, although plenty of people in it. I saw that the Golden Griddle was near empty and I usually don't trust empty places. Went back to the Golden Diner - it was so full I had to sit at the counter. Great... More

We had a quick breakfast while waiting for an appt. the food was ok, omelette a little overdone, potatoes were cold. Furniture extremely warn and dated, which I will overlook for great food. This was just ok. The service was good though, which is what got me up to 3 stars.

Clean, and friendly, this place has been a part of the community for more than half a century. Serves familiar food, cooked great at a great price! Locals and travellers alike, are welcomed every day by friendy staff eager to please. No attitude here! Well known for their Halibut fish and chips, their huge portions, and their fast service! I... My friend and I were walking down the street from our hotel and famished. We popped in for a bite. The second we sat down I knew this was a hidden gem. The menu has a great selection (especially for us who do no eat meat.) and the portions were HUGE (we could not finish our meals!). We loved the... More

Ate her for Saturday lunch after being caught in a down pour. Place looked closed (dark lighting makes it appear closed from street) but open sign was on and in we went. Big menu. Typical diner choices. Serving sizes generous. Food served hot and fast. Decor is original vintage. It was like stepping into a small town main street restaurant... More

We discovered this place after attending an event near by. There weren't many restaurants around and the place looked deceiving and not too inviting from the outside, as it is kind of in a basement, but we could see it was very busy so we decided to give it a try. Some of us wanted breakfast and others wanted lunch,... More

The steak and eggs in this very restaurant were to die for. Especially when it came to the other specialties this restaurant had to offer it was just a worthwhile experience.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
