Good servers, specifically Sócrates!

We been there in two different days. The first one, Sócrates was with us and as we had no idea around the menu, we asked for his hand. He was very helpful trying to explain how Canadian breakfast works. A basic dish is enough to fill you for the next 5h, you won't get hungry! 13CAD is a worth price.

We love this hole-in-the-wall place. It's full of people that we would get along with on a regular basis. Right in our community - one feels that there's a real community going on, and that you're participating in keeping a happy circle of friends, food and feasts rolling into the future. We haven't delved into lunch much yet, but are... More

The staff was wonderful, and seemed to have many regular returning customers, and spoke to them by name. The food was great, and the portions were large and inexpensive. I would suggest for anyone with dietary restrictions to note that to the waiter when ordering. There are sauces on everything :)

I eat there for breakfast and I can say that it was amazing also filling. It was not expensive and I like the old style diner. I felt like I was in the past

We went in as we wanted to eat at an old style diner. This we certainly got. The decor is old and worn but the diner is clean, thus having an old-time feel. The food was hearty and wholesome and came in big portions. I could not finish my homefries. Great experience.

The only problem about this place is the waitress who works in the evenings. She is very miserable, never smiles. I get food to go out, and she gives me a speech each time I ask for an extra ketcup portion.

Looking at the place from the outside you definitely would not be impressed but step inside and everything changes. The service is warm, friendly and immediate. The food is delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. Anytime I visit Toronto the only place I will be going for breakfast is here!

Great breakfast menu and the club house sandwich is one of the best in the city. Don't let the look from outside put you off, take the steps down. Owner Gus is there as chief cook and service in the morning is good.

When I go at nights ( after 2pm ) when the competent, friendly, attentive waiters go home for the weekend. I call the waitress from my mobile phone ( sometimes I am three feet away from her ) to get her attention. She gets pissed, but also get the message!

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
