An old style diner!

We went in as we wanted to eat at an old style diner. This we certainly got. The decor is old and worn but the diner is clean, thus having an old-time feel. The food was hearty and wholesome and came in big portions. I could not finish my homefries. Great experience.

The only problem about this place is the waitress who works in the evenings. She is very miserable, never smiles. I get food to go out, and she gives me a speech each time I ask for an extra ketcup portion.

Looking at the place from the outside you definitely would not be impressed but step inside and everything changes. The service is warm, friendly and immediate. The food is delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. Anytime I visit Toronto the only place I will be going for breakfast is here!

Great breakfast menu and the club house sandwich is one of the best in the city. Don't let the look from outside put you off, take the steps down. Owner Gus is there as chief cook and service in the morning is good.

When I go at nights ( after 2pm ) when the competent, friendly, attentive waiters go home for the weekend. I call the waitress from my mobile phone ( sometimes I am three feet away from her ) to get her attention. She gets pissed, but also get the message!

I was here few weeks ago. The food was top notch, a very big and yummy burger, fresh and delicious. The place is very old, run-down but seems kind of nostalgic. The price goes high suddenly as their burger is listed around $10, but when I got a burger, with mashed potato, two cans of soda, then this with %13... More

I've been going to this place for years. I've always found the food good, the place definitely not visually appealing but clean and you used to be able to count on the food quality. I ordered eggs over easy and got eggs over medium. When I pointed this out to the server she was apathetic, shrugged her shoulders and said... More

I go to Toronto every February and wouldn't miss going to this restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is great. They make you feel like your dining at home. The prices are absolutely amazing as well. The amount and quality of food you receive is well above the price you pay. I would recomend this restaurant to anyone... More

This place looks like a dumpster (old, horrible looking furniture, terrible decor, and just an awful looking joint). The washroom is very clean, and so are the tables. The food, however, is excellent. I cannot understand how could this place serve consistently FRESH and excellent tasting dishes and YET not invest even a penny into how it looks. I recommend... This restaurant on Carlton Street (near Jarvis) was just a 2-minute walk from Ramada Plaza Hotel, so very convenient for us! Had dinner, food was hot, fresh & well-prepared, prices for food, wine & beer were extremely reasonable; service was efficient and we were not rushed in any way; breakfast menu also very appealing & reasonably priced; do not be... Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
