We arrived for dinner at 6pm. We ordered three appetizers, which apparently confused the kitchen. At 7pm they gave us apologies and comped more wine. After 15 minutes they apologized again and gave us more free wine. The waiter, Michael, was wonderful. Finally, our meal started to arrive. Appetizers were great, but the entrees arrived at the same time. Steak... More

This restaurant has a nice elevated outdoor patio on Bloor St in the heart of all the high end stores. I came on a Sunday night (7pm) and the place was quite empty. About 5-7 tables filled on the patio - inside was empty from what I saw. It was lobster night ($20 for 1.5lb lobster) so we each got... More

Authentic brasserie restaurant with excellent menu and extremely polite and friendly staff. Even without reservation they try the utmost to make you feel being their special guest. Best charcuterie plater we ever found.

We were travelling through the East, including Toronto, and La Societe was one of our stops to dine during our two nights in Toronto. we are from the Vancouver BC area, so we looked it up on line as well as from some hotel room magazines. What a great place. We were priviledged to have sunny warm ( not too... More

I had had a memorable composed salad at La Societe two years ago: all the ingredients were delicious, including crisp and varied greens. What a disappointment today, when I returned for lunch. Pleasant service. But: tasteless supermarket prewashed greens, of which some were already slimey and rotting. I ate around them, as I didn't want to embarrass my companion; but... More

This place is ridiculously expensive and it's not even that good. Maybe we were unlucky but service was really bad too.

We joined family for a "business lunch" and I understand with the location, that this is probably their typical clientele, but I was underwhelmed by the experience and overwhelmed with the cost. Granted, I am not accustomed to Toronto prices so those, in themselves, take some adjustment. However, I still think the value was lacking in a lunch for four... More

We 3 walked in to the restaurant and were immediately taken back in time to the 20s. The style and ambience are evocative, and the paintings, murals and even tiles on the floor were eye-catching. The menu was interesting; my two companions had the PEI mussels (on the recommendation of our very helpful waitress) and I had the salmon. None... More

Given the high prices it charges for food and wine, this restaurant should do better. The service was absolutely first-rate, perhaps because my host is a regular. The food is only OK, however. The cream of mushroom soup was good, though not as good as one I had in Niagara-on-the-Lake last week. The lobster sandwich was tasty but rather short... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
