Excellent food, sub-par atmosphere

We went to the new location for my birthday and were concerned after reading some of the reviews. The food was as delicious as we remembered; the lobster bisque was the driving force for us going. The croquettes were amazing; light, fluffy, salty (in a good way) and delicious. We had the... read more

Strange, uninviting ambiance, almost empty and had no atmosphere, staff a little unfriendly. Expensive and uninteresting menu. Wouldn't bother to be honest....we left before the mains and went to Scaramouch.....totally the opposite!

I have been to a variety of restursunts ranging from McDonalds to Michelin Rated restursunts. I have never had such a terrible dining experience. Our waiter took 10 minites to come to oir table initially. We indicated that we were eager to order as we had plans after dinner we wanted to get to. The waiter did not return for... More

For several years now, ICI has been my favourite restaurant in Toronto - one of the few to combine fabulous food with an intimate, quiet setting. It was never a "trendy see & be seen" place but rather somewhere to relax and enjoy truly stellar food with like-minded patrons & servers. I was excited to introduce my "foodie" friends to... More

We went to the new location (Windsor Arms) a little nervous having read the recent reviews. The nerves were unfounded....the food was top notch and the setting fine (but please turn off the CP24 over the bar). The lobster bisque is a must....at least as good as any I've had in France. The snails were delicious in a wonderful sauce... More

My wife brought us to Ici Bistro with our 2 kids for my birthday, as a surprise. The room is cosy, the service was perfect and the food was delicious. The dishes were creative and full of flavors. I had a special (small) cake to celebrate my birthday, which was perfect as well. Would certainly recommend it for a fine... More

We were at this hotel mostly for the dining experience with chef Jean-Pierre at Ici Bistro. This was our anniversary and my birthday celebration. We had asked for a romantic table and were seated by the door leading to the patio where the loudest and worst "minipop" impersonator DJ was spinning music so loud people were discouraged and annoyed in... We dined twice and Ici Bistro. Our first time was at the old location on Harbord Street and just recently at the new location in the Windsor Arms Hotel. While we appreciated no decline in the quality of the food, the ambiance and service was better at the old location. The food was plopped down on our table without explanations.... More

We dined at Ici last night. It was my daughter's choice as she had just graduated from college, and wanted steak tartare. We may have been naive, but thought that a French restaurant at the Windsor Arms would command a bit of class. Our party of seven were well dressed(suits & ties, dresses) Disappointed to see guests in polo shirts... More

Ici Bistro has been re-located to the Windsor Arms Hotel, we had reservation for 4. The restaurant is located in the hotel, so the atmosphere is not that of a French bistro. There are 2 menus offered, the regular hotel menu which has been reviewed and adjusted by Chef Jean Paul who is currently the executive chef for the Windsor... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
