Friendly staff, speedy service

The menu wasn't huge, but of all the restaurants we visited in Toronto, this one was by far the friendliest. The staff were attentive and helpful, and we enjoyed ourselves enough to make a return visit a couple of days later.

Simple Italian menu with overpriced wines. The service received from the gentleman at the front was very friendly and personable, while the service from the server was distant and lacked engagement. Overall, I prefer the Mercatto located on Toronto Street due to the care put into their dishes and the consistent service from all staff.

We ate here on a Sunday evening - the location is such a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Yonge street and the mall. Food was very good - not amazing, but tasty and the service was quick.

My husband and I plus our two teenage daughters had lunch here on a Friday towards the end of May 2015. It was a lovely day and we sat outside. The restaurant was fairly busy with a mixture of business people and others, but the service was still very prompt. Given that we were 3 vegetarians and one vegan, we... More

If you are looking for a sit-down experience while in the mall, this is by far the best restaurant until the mall as of May 2015. Funky vibe, nice patio in the summer, enthusiastic and young wait staff. Food is good ... Beet salad is good, seared tuna is good, nice buffalo mozzarella salad, and pizzas and pastas are generally... More

We stopped in for lunch at Mercatto in the Eaton Centre expecting "average" - and was blown away with "Superior"! We thought our Server "Bobby" was an owner beause of his enthusiasm and +AAA service...had freakishly wonderful beet salad, pizza, panini. Never have dessert but had to have theirs made in-house by their pastry chef - A M A Z... More

Great atmosphere. Very nice outdoor seating area in the summer. (Been there once before with family in June) Location wise it's definitely a step up from the eatons center food court! Good choice if you want something a bit more fancy in downtown area! One of the best ravioli dishes I've tested ever!

GOOD: Great atmosphere. Decor is warm and rustic. Servers were very attentive. TIP: FREE BREAD (just ask) with tasty olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip. AVERAGE: FOOD: I would eat apps and dessert, and skip the mains. I like salt, but even I found the food a little too salty. APPETIZERS: Polpette (veal/pork meatball) - tasty. Spiedini (grilled octopus)... More

For a restaurant situated in a mall, the ambiance and atmosphere is actually pretty good. However, the prices are a bit high for what you get. The best value would be in one of the pizzas as the pastas and mains are quite small but pricey. Although it is a decent alternative to the Eaton Centre food court after a... More

Despite having a reservation we waited 20 minutes for a table with no apology or explanation. Paid $18 for a meatball sandwich... you'd expect authentic Italian taste and a good size portion, at Mercatto you get neither. Everyone in our party felt ripped-off. Stay away. No redeeming qualities whatsoever

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
