This is not the Italian rustica that I am used to and usually enjoy -- comfy, old and character-filled tables and chairs, wine served in a water glass, chummy waiters, and so on. This is northern Italian cuisine at the luxury level. Deep black all around, dim lights, white linen, charming but formal and authoriative male servers -- the works.... More

Having visited many fine dining Italian restaurants all over the U.S. and Europe, we both agreed that Carisma was an A+ on service and ambiance and a solid B or B- on food (given the price point). We both would love to return to Carisma just for the homey and family-type experience you expect from a true Italian restaurant. But... More

My wife and I enjoyed our dinner here. The place has a warm and friendly atmosphere and the staff were efficient and service excellent. The food was also quite good. For bread we got an entire small loaf of a warm focaccia drizzled with some olive oil. My wife enjoyed her scallop appetizer, while I enjoyed my smoked octopus with... More

Party of 3, had dinner here. Service was excellent. Made advance booking and notwithstanding that we were slightly late, they held the table for us. Service was excellent. The food was very well presented and was delicious. One of the best Italian meals that I had in Toronto. Restaurant is a short walk from the King subway station. No on... More

We had dinner here with another couple. The interior is all black and hence quite dark, with almost a night club feel. Service was very good, and despite it being a busy Friday evening we didn't feel at all rushed. The food was also good, especially the two fish specials. It was our first time here, and we'll definitely be... More

the service and the food were both amazing. It is a fine dinning, but we didn't want to pay 100$ a wine bottle and the server was really good about it. The ragu pasta were straight out of a Italian heaven, and the shrimp rosé sauce was to die for. The server accomodate me by having a small plate of... More

We took my mother here for a belated birthday dinner and couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. From the second we walked in, we were greeted by warm and friendly staff. We were given a wonderful table right by the window and enjoyed being able to people watch while eating amazing Italian food. The staff went out of... More

We wanted to end our time in Toronto with a good meal as a couple before heading back home to Ottawa and our children and Carisma did not disappoint. My husband has eaten here twice before and this time impressed him as much as prior visits. It is delicious. The service was excellent. They were very friendly and attentive. The... More

This restaurant is only good if you like having your food thrown at you in an effort to get you out of your chair so they can refill it. I complained when my dinner showed up just as I was finishing my appetizer. I was told the kitchen was busy so that was the way it is done. So the... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
