Hard to believe this is my first time here. Amazing. Even met Zane Caplansky. The reubonesette is amazing. The Lata poutine is really good.

Growing up near NYC, Jewish delis are a way of life. I miss them now that I'm in Texas, but on a recent trip to Toronto, I had to get some smoked meat. Caplansky's is awesome! Matzo ball soup that warms the heart, awesome smoked meat sandwiches with tasty rye bread and latkes. It was heaven! Definitely go! You'll be... More

Had the Smoked Meat Hash at the Toronto Airport location. Was very good. One day I will get to the real deli and try that smoked meat sandwich. Would eat at the airport again.

If it's Deli food you want, this is the place! We ordered the platter which came with all kinds of meats and bread. So good, you make your own sandwich. The add ons, pickles and condiments were all super fresh and homemade from recipes from the family.

We've been a few times and always enjoy the wonderful aromas that greet diners as they enter through the door. The food is good, the prices fair. Service is OK. They now have a truck that services the city outside. Local rock hero Geddy Lee has been a regular and has had a breakfast dish named after him. Our fave... More

I have greatly enjoyed the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel at Caplansky's Toronto Pearson airport location on several locations. I decided to switch it up while passing through the airport recently and try their smoked meat sandwich which they advertise as Toronto's best. Sadly, it was, without a doubt, the worst smoked meat sandwich of my life. So bad,... More

I am a senior from Montreal and have eaten smoked meat in many restaurants in Montreal and Toronto. I rank the quality and taste of Caplanskys as perhaps a 2 out of 10.The meat was dry and not tender and juicy as a good sandwich should be. Also small for $ 9.95. The owner should visit Montreal and taste the... More

I've been hearing about this place for years and thought that we would hit it on Christmas Day as part of our ongoing tradition of visiting restaurants in the core. My best advice: stay home and eat leftovers. I give this one a miss. I ordered one of my favorite dishes: latkes, I chose the latke poutine which the menu... More

It's a local Jewish deli with some interesting twists- famous for their smoked mat and potato latkes. The menu is somewhat limited. I had the scrambled eggs and smoked meat platter, served with potato latkes and rye bread. The food was enjoyable, not exceptional, and the portions somewhat less then expected, My wife had lox on a bagel and enjoyed.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
