Great Deli

Enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the food at this Toronto deli. Good value. Food well prepared. Great service and all round good experience at centrally located restaurant. Good sandwiches, brisket, blintzes, and latkes.

Kickin It Old Shul: that's what the wait staff's tee shirts say, and it's true. A great place if you're Jewish or if you just love Jewish food.

I would rate as just average. I thought the bread could be softer and fresher. The pickle was good. I had seen it on Dragon's Den and heard of it so I went out of my way to try it and was not overwhelmed. There are better out there for sure.

This was our first stop in Toronto. I was concerned about parking but we were able to find a spot on the street. The menu contained many delicious options. I chose the chicken liver plate ($7) and was not disappointed. My husband had the corned beef sandwich ($9.95) and while he enjoyed the flavor, he found it rather small (compared... More

They make a good Montreal smoked meat sandwich. No issues with the quality of service. Reasonable prices.

Early bfast at airport. Not impressed at all. Felt awful after eating our food. Not sure if it was the food but 2 out of us got sick and threw up. One at airport and one on the plane. My last time ever eating there. Don't roll the dice. Not a good way to start vacation.

We went to lunch at the College St. location to try the much hyped about deli and left very underwhelmed. The service was mediocre. Very, very slow to get our orders taken and then hit and miss throughout our visit. The food was o.k. Corn beef sandwich was decent as was the brisket, but it wasn't something to brag about.... Came to Caplanskys (on an over night stopover) after seeing these guys on dragons den 3 times- I was hopeful. The restaurant owner, Zane, appeared to have an expansion plan that was working in his favor, so naturally his arrogance on the snow would have been backed by the amazing smoked meat he served. I looked forward to ordering a... More

I saw this restaurants on a very popular TV show and I decided to try it. I have to admit that I was not very happy with my meal. The smoked meat, that is the signature dish, was really dry. The poutine looks like dog food and tastes awful. Service was good and friendly, but other than that I have... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
