Was visiting Church Street when we got hungry and smelled something good and decided to find it... and it was the charcoal grilling going on at Guu Izakaya. This seemed like a popular spot with the locals and isn't a large place but we were seated right away (it was around 3pm so an odd time to eat but our... More

This is a must visit in Toronto, it is exceptional! You must try the Oyster and mushroom and the seared beef.

I have been to Guu in Vancouver bit this is my first time to Guu in Toronto. A very different atmosphere...a little to loud and noisy! We need to shout in order to hear each other. However, the food was great and the price was reasonable. You must come here to try it. It is not recommended for a big... More

If you haven't been here then "You have to eat here". The food are just simply amazing and match the energy of the restaurant. It's a fun date night place (but perhaps not for first date, the music is rather loud) and for food lovers to just have fun. We started with the specials, spicy octopus and fresh sweet shrimp... I had an informal lunch meeting here a few weeks ago and was really pleased that it was as good as all the reviews seem to say. Noisy as hell, but in a fun way - probably not appropriate for a "serious" business lunch, but we could hear each other just fine. Perfect tapas sized plates for sharing. We had... More

Before you leave the house have a drink or two, jump in a cab and head over to Guu Izakaya on Church street. When you arrive get ready for the "welcome to the Japanese party cheers" you will receive. The décor is primitive - picnic tables or some old stools at the bar but the atmosphere is raucous. The food... More

I was reading about Guu but was not quite sure what to expect. As soon as we entered it was fun (and surprising, you will see). We loved the food, especially the oysters with cheese and mayo and the green tea cheese cake! if you want to experience something different then this is the place! It is lively and noisy... More

The atmosphere here is great. I've been to Japan before, and it is fairly authentic with a western twist. The staff cheer and scream when you arrive in the restaurant, and the staff are extremely friendly. I loved the service and the atmosphere. The food is pretty good pub style food. Must visit.

Yes, be prepared to spend a lot of money. I was warned beforehand by a couple of friends but it still doesn't minimize the damage to my wallet. But be prepared to also have your stomach wow'd by the variety of delicious and creative dishes they serve. It's tapas style, little portions that can be shared and the more people... More
