Had dinner in this highly rated restaurant earlier this week. At first we were greeted by a very enthusiastic and very loud staff. The atmosphere is lively and loud. But not necessarily for good reason. The staff yells and shout every 5 minutes. Purposely squeaky and squealing loud. It's part of the ambiance. The food was average. Small portions. Service... On vacation in Toronto, we were really excited to try Guu after seeing great reviews and watching the show "munchies" on youtube. We came for lunch. The restaurant is nice, staff are friendly. The food was okay... nothing special at all. Left disappointed, the bento "hamburg" I would not recommend, we also ordered the pork ramen and some appetizers which... More

Very nice restaurant with a small terrace. Food is great but not amazing. Good cocktails also. Prices are really accessible and the service is friendly. Would recommend.

This is completely a 'left field' experience, you will feel like you're in Japan. This place is loud and boisterous and the food is pretty darn good. Served in small portions you get a chance to try a lot of different dishes. Be forewarned this is loud venue as you'll be greeted by the staff, and possibly regular patrons There... More

Food and atmosphere are fun and jovial. We've been to Guu a few times previously and always loved the creativity and diversity of the food. However, I made a reservation for my wife's 40th birthday and specifically made reference to her birthday in the reservation and upon arrival to the restaurant. They failed to acknowledge her birthday or do anything... More

I don't normally go into Toronto, but when I do I go to Guu (either of the two locations). It's a fantastic spot to go with friends. It is loud, raucous, and super duper fun with all the wait staff yelling jovially. The food is so interesting and it's great that you get little bits of different types of food.... More

If you want a quiet intimate place to eat this is not the place. This is a very upbeat welcoming Asian Fusion small plate restuarant. As soon as you walk in the door the staff is yelling to welcome you in! If you want less noise you might want to eat outside on their patio. Everything we ordered was delicious!!... More

Forget Zen, Guu is loud and noisy as usual! However, we are additive to their obessively fresh, scrumptuously 'wow'-definitively oshii sashimis and other mouthwatering Japanese specialities. All plates are tapas-size so one can definitely chow down and still feels hungry?!? The bathrooms are a must visit and if you are allergic to noise, there is a noiseless zone outside!! ITATAKIMASU!!!

This is one of our favourite spots to eat in the city - such a fun and inviting place! Every small plate we try is always carefully crafted and usually delicious, although sometimes a little different, which is part of the fun. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an energetic and tasty bar - get the big Sapporo and try... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
