John & Sons Oyster House - Downtown is out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the financial core but at the same time right in the middle of it, hidden away. From ducking down our little street, you feel as though you are doing something deliciously wicked. When you walk in the door of our 40 seat joint, you feel as though you’ve stumbled upon the best speakeasy in town and you’re getting away with flouting all the rules while everyone else behaves. You may think you’ll only have a few oysters and a quick drink while you’re there, but everything around you conspires to make you want to stay longer. Our fare varies according to the time of year, coastal fishing quotas and weather conditions. We can always shuck to order from a selection of 5-10 different Oysters daily, drawn from both our own beds in P.E.I. and the best growers in Canada, the USA and further abroad.

Outstanding

Great German lager on draft followed by choice of 6 kinds of fresh oysters in which I enjoyed 15. The smelts with curry salt were extremly tasty so I had 2 orders. John and sons is da bomb. Thanks to great service as well from Ashley, and Kendall and of course John.

Start with an assorted oyster platter. There really is a difference between those little gushy morsels. It's almost like a wine or beer tasting , only much more delicious. For your main course , don't waste any time looking at the menu. Just order the Tuna BLT. It's a 28 dollar piece if paradise. I believe this sandwich inspired the... More

This amazing little oyster house is tucked down a short lane way off the beaten path of bay street. Great selection of fresh oysters from the east and west coasts. The steamed mussels are also great, but stay for the clam chowder! They also offer a very good wine list and super friendly staff.

Came here on a double date. We all loved everything. I especially loved the oysters. Everything is very flavourful and presented well. Servers are quick and pleasant.

I've eaten several times here and liked the food. Some of the nicest fish and chips ever, delicately battered and light on the grease. However, the service is extremely inattentive. Partly this was due to sitting in a booth behind a pillar where the wait staff couldn't see us, but they sure didn't make any effort to watch us! If... More

Decided to treat a friend to dinner at this restaurant. We both ordered the Fish Boil which sounded like a delicious cornucopia of seafood & sausage. On the menu, the description said: bread, perch, shrimp, mussels, chorizo and vegetables. I got a huge bowl with a small amount of food. Two pieces of perch, 3 inches by 1 inch, 3... More

We went to John's within an hour of it being recommended to us, always ready to try a good fish and chips place. My wife had the haddock and it arrived with what only could be described as a half portion. The fries are great, to her distress my hand kept reaching over for more! I tried the Po Boy... More

Someone in the group - ordered the lobster roll, while it was all lobster it was VERY heavy on the creamy sauce so they thought it was more like a seafood sandwich. Fresh bread was nice for the group. Fish and chips was 2 portions but was pricey (19) for lunch. There aren't a lot of tables so you will... More

John and Sons Oyster House serves a variety of fish appetizers and mains that look better on the menu than when on the plate. Perhaps I was there on an off night. The fish and chips were so/so, the fries were served cold! The atmosphere was loud and not conducive to chatter. I would recommend their newly opened fish and... More
