Description: John & Sons Oyster House - Downtown is out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the financial core but at the same time right in the middle of it, hidden away. From ducking down our little street, you feel as though you are doing something deliciously wicked. When you walk in the door of our 40 seat joint, you feel as though you’ve stumbled upon the best speakeasy in town and you’re getting away with flouting all the rules while everyone else behaves. You may think you’ll only have a few oysters and a quick drink while you’re there, but everything around you conspires to make you want to stay longer. Our fare varies according to the time of year, coastal fishing quotas and weather conditions. We can always shuck to order from a selection of 5-10 different Oysters daily, drawn from both our own beds in P.E.I. and the best growers in Canada, the USA and further abroad.

Came here on a double date. We all loved everything. I especially loved the oysters. Everything is very flavourful and presented well. Servers are quick and pleasant.

I've eaten several times here and liked the food. Some of the nicest fish and chips ever, delicately battered and light on the grease. However, the service is extremely inattentive. Partly this was due to sitting in a booth behind a pillar where the wait staff couldn't see us, but they sure didn't make any effort to watch us! If... More

Decided to treat a friend to dinner at this restaurant. We both ordered the Fish Boil which sounded like a delicious cornucopia of seafood & sausage. On the menu, the description said: bread, perch, shrimp, mussels, chorizo and vegetables. I got a huge bowl with a small amount of food. Two pieces of perch, 3 inches by 1 inch, 3... More

We went to John's within an hour of it being recommended to us, always ready to try a good fish and chips place. My wife had the haddock and it arrived with what only could be described as a half portion. The fries are great, to her distress my hand kept reaching over for more! I tried the Po Boy... More

Someone in the group - ordered the lobster roll, while it was all lobster it was VERY heavy on the creamy sauce so they thought it was more like a seafood sandwich. Fresh bread was nice for the group. Fish and chips was 2 portions but was pricey (19) for lunch. There aren't a lot of tables so you will... More

John and Sons Oyster House serves a variety of fish appetizers and mains that look better on the menu than when on the plate. Perhaps I was there on an off night. The fish and chips were so/so, the fries were served cold! The atmosphere was loud and not conducive to chatter. I would recommend their newly opened fish and... More

An uninspired serving of fish and chips. Overbattered fish. Seemed like a lot, but really not a lot of fish. Air conditioning did not seem to be functioning well. We passed on dessert. Not on our return to list.

Great food, good service but portions quite small. I think we all felt we needed a second dinner. Also good variety on menu but mostly aquatic food. Good for cheaper oysters before 6pm.

Great spot for lunch! And probably for dinner too Thoroughly enjoyable experience and great food at John and Sons. This place is a real gem tucked away west of Bay on Temperance Street in Toronto. We had a selection of both east coast and west coast oysters, the Black cod and the fish and chips. I enjoyed the Block cod... More
