Description: John & Sons Oyster House - Downtown is out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the financial core but at the same time right in the middle of it, hidden away. From ducking down our little street, you feel as though you are doing something deliciously wicked. When you walk in the door of our 40 seat joint, you feel as though you’ve stumbled upon the best speakeasy in town and you’re getting away with flouting all the rules while everyone else behaves. You may think you’ll only have a few oysters and a quick drink while you’re there, but everything around you conspires to make you want to stay longer. Our fare varies according to the time of year, coastal fishing quotas and weather conditions. We can always shuck to order from a selection of 5-10 different Oysters daily, drawn from both our own beds in P.E.I. and the best growers in Canada, the USA and further abroad.

John and Sons Oyster House serves a variety of fish appetizers and mains that look better on the menu than when on the plate. Perhaps I was there on an off night. The fish and chips were so/so, the fries were served cold! The atmosphere was loud and not conducive to chatter. I would recommend their newly opened fish and... More

An uninspired serving of fish and chips. Overbattered fish. Seemed like a lot, but really not a lot of fish. Air conditioning did not seem to be functioning well. We passed on dessert. Not on our return to list.

Great food, good service but portions quite small. I think we all felt we needed a second dinner. Also good variety on menu but mostly aquatic food. Good for cheaper oysters before 6pm.

Great spot for lunch! And probably for dinner too Thoroughly enjoyable experience and great food at John and Sons. This place is a real gem tucked away west of Bay on Temperance Street in Toronto. We had a selection of both east coast and west coast oysters, the Black cod and the fish and chips. I enjoyed the Block cod... More

Calamari, smoked trout dip, clam chowder, oysters, crab cakes and more were all terrific. Service was great. This was our second afternoon dining and we shall return. This was the location at young and st clair

I had never even seen this place but was invited for lunch. It's a tiny location tucked behind Bay & Adelaide on Temperance but it's got a great feel to it. Oysters are top shelf and the fish & chips that I had were great. Definitely a nice little private joint for a quick beer and a bite with a... More

Very personable service and a wide range of oysters available. We did lunch on a Monday and the place was packed. I had some very well made non greasy fish and chips. Great casual place but worth getting a reservation as its not large.

Very enjoyable dinner at John and Sons. A bit hard to find if using a smart phone. Mine mapped the establishment to the wrong side of the street. No problem on a warm night but at -5 F, every minute counts! The restaurant is small with only small tables around the edge of the room and seats at the bar... More

The Balmoral location is small and reservations are recommended. I've been a few times and enjoyed really good seafood. Last night the grilled calamari starter was served with garlic and capers. Cooked perfectly as was the steelhead trout served with dill sauce on a crispy rosti. Service is friendly and prices reasonable. Nice neighbourhood spot.
