We went to Dakota's for their Blue Grass brunch. We arrived a few minutes before it opened to avoid the lineups. As we walked down the stairs, we were greeted by lively music and friendly servers. The service is family style along long tables but they seated groups comfortably together. They brought coffee right away followed shortly after by a... More

Had a great time visiting this place! The Mercenaries band played on Saturday, we came right in time to listen to them. They performed really nice and got the crowd warmed up.Did some dances and enjoyed the tavern drinks, which were ok.

I know what you are thinking - kids do not belong in a bar! Here is the delightful exception; BlueGrass Brunch! Popped in today w the wife and a couple of out-of-towners. Two platters of scrambled eggs, sausage, fantastic fried potatoes, fluffy pancakes, and your choice of coffee and tea. Opens at the appropriate hour of 10am on the weekend... More

Friends and I came to check out a friends CD release party and loved our time at Dakota. Located on trendy Ossington, this basement location has an excellent ambiance...especially for people in my age demographic. The stage is a perfect size with a great size dance foor. The decor is a little bit country, just enough to not be cheesy.... More

The Sunday buffet was really good. It had unlimited eggs and sausage. Great coffee. The Blue Grass was wonderful. My only suggestion was to accommodate individual needs by having sugar substitutes on the table without being asked. The service was also a bit slow.

We were in town for a few days and were lucky enough to catch brunch at Dakota Tavern. GREAT music, laid back atmosphere - I know some have said the brunch is a little pricey but the fruit was good and we were there for the music anyway. It was a rainy day so maybe that's why the line so... More

I'm a pub-person. I love the atmosphere, the beer, the live band and the place itself. The barman allows you to sample some different beers they have before you decide what pint to start the night. The only bad thing is that I always wake up the next day with a massive hangover, but that is my fault.

The combination doesn't get much better than that. The Foggy Hogtown Boys were the band the Sunday morning we were there and they did not disappoint with their excellent playing. Brunch was good, basic and plentiful fare of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and fresh fruit, served family style. For a big brunch and entertainment, $18 is more than reasonable. My... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
