We had dinner at Caren's - BIG MISTAKE! From the beginning, we could tell the waiter couldn't handle his job. He was snappy from the first few minutes we were ordering drinks. Didn't help that the chef had quit and it took 2 hrs for our food to come out. I ordered a salad and grilled rapini. At the 1... More

I know it's Caren's wine bar but every good bartender worth his salt should be able to make a palatable martini. We may have found the one bar that consistently makes mediocre sometimes unpalatable martinis. With so many staff hanging around the bar, someone should be able to rectify the situation. Now for the upside.... OMG, the burger is amazing.... More

Went here with a large group and had a fixed menu so maybe they were constraiined a little. Started with a ho hum sald of greens and avocado but I didn't detect any dressing. The lamb shank was hearty and plentiful. Would have appreciated more veggies and a starch with it as the gravy/sauce was quite heavy. Was tasty just... More

This review pertains mostly to the wine and cheese aspect of the restaurant. I've eaten here before and the food was fine but not note worthy. The patio is pretty nice. So our snack of 4 cheeses, half a litre of wine and some prosciutto/chorizo on the side cost 100 $ for two people. The cheeses were all fairly mediocre... More

If you find yourself in Yorkville and are seeking a fun spot to dine, check out Caren's back patio. Savor their fantastic selection of cheeses, charcuterie and wine by the glass, or one of their delicious main courses. The service is friendly, too.

I was in Toronto alone on business. I sat at the bar. The waiter did not hesitate to give recommendations and the mushroom risotto I had was really, really excellent.

I was entertained here on Father's Day by my daughters. I had been there before a couple of times with my older daughter for lunch and always enjoyed the food, the ambiance and the service. This night was no exception but when I saw what they charged for a bottle of wine that I often buy and keep at home... More

Went to Carens Wine & Cheese Bar pre-dinner and had a blue cheese fondue with what the waiter described as a "huge" old-vine Zinfandel. Both were divine! We ate in the back patio area, which had a great atmosphere. I thought the fleece blankets draped over the backs of chairs for customers' use was a really nice and creative touch.... More
