Not so good for cheese fondue

Waiter was nice and knowledgeable in wine. Good recommendation. But the fondue didn't live up to the standards: too liquid also the bread was really soft. Definitely not from a traditional baguette. Disappointing

I was at Carans for dinner last night with a friend, who is a regular there. Initially I thought the waiter was somewhat scattered brain, but that was only my first impression. We ordered appetizers and entrees. For main my friend ordered the lobster mac and cheese and I the lobster risotto. They were out of lobster so the waiter... More

I have been to Caren's a few times for mostly wine and cheese. Their cheese platters are amazing and they have a lot of variety. Good Wine list as well. I finally had dinner here the other day was disappointing. The food was mediocre and cold. We had 4 different dishes and all were Meh, I will go back for... More

A very unfortunate incident occurred at Carens Wine Bar when I visited recently. We were sitting at a table in the back beside a ledge. The ledge was about the height of my shoulders and upon this ledge were 4 large, hot, burning candles. The ledge was slightly sloped toward my table and eventually, one of these candles, and its... Caren's Cheese and Wine Bar feels like Yorkville's best-kept secret, except for the fact that it's most often quite full. So, it was a secret to me until recently, when I was taken there for dinner. Its hidden patio is totally charming and its menu goes well beyond cheese and wine. I've been back a few times in the past... More

Well, I went back to Caren's at the insistence of a friend. This friend is Celiac and has eaten there before with no issues. It took them 20 min to ask if we wanted anything to drink. Ten minutes later they brought the wrong drinks. 1 1/2 hours later they took our food order, the wrong order was delivered and... More

We had dinner at Caren's - BIG MISTAKE! From the beginning, we could tell the waiter couldn't handle his job. He was snappy from the first few minutes we were ordering drinks. Didn't help that the chef had quit and it took 2 hrs for our food to come out. I ordered a salad and grilled rapini. At the 1... More

I know it's Caren's wine bar but every good bartender worth his salt should be able to make a palatable martini. We may have found the one bar that consistently makes mediocre sometimes unpalatable martinis. With so many staff hanging around the bar, someone should be able to rectify the situation. Now for the upside.... OMG, the burger is amazing.... More
