The new location

There is now a Carens Rosedale restaurant, presumably by the same people. Not very busy when we were there on a Tuesday night. Service was friendly. Atmosphere is fine. Food still has some improving needed. The soup bowl was hot but the soup was only warm. The subtle taste of fish and scallops was... read more

Nestled in busy Yorkville, the back patio was lovely. It was a hot day so a breeze would have been nice but it was a great setting and would be beautiful at night with the lanterns. I had the eggs benedict and my wife had the mushroom omelette - both were great.

A friend and I had spent a good part of a Friday lunching and shopping. We dropped in in the early evening for a quick glass of wine. The first glass I had had gone over. When I told our waiter, there was no issue. I was offered another vintage or a glass from a bottle they would open. The... More

Had dinner last night at Carens with my sister and niece who are from out of town. My sister chose Carens based on the reviews from another review website and the online menu looked appealing. So appealing in fact that all three of us had a difficult time in selecting a meal. Safe yourself the time and effort; not one... More

we went back here for lunch and was very surprised. We have been here many times in the past and always had a great dinning experience but unless things change we don't know if we'll be back. As always the food is fantastic but this time the service sucked. The clod they call a waiter seemed happier to stay at... More

I had the lobster mac and cheese. A bit Spicy but great taste. The ambience is cozy but a little noisy. The white wine helped to make things even better.

Decided to try again as it is in the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, quite the same. Waiter mixed up food order. Burger....dry and tough. Wine list ok but over priced. The staff are friendly but it cannot make up for the cost. How would I use this place - I'd go of I had a cheese craving and then I would have... More

Waiter was nice and knowledgeable in wine. Good recommendation. But the fondue didn't live up to the standards: too liquid also the bread was really soft. Definitely not from a traditional baguette. Disappointing

I was at Carans for dinner last night with a friend, who is a regular there. Initially I thought the waiter was somewhat scattered brain, but that was only my first impression. We ordered appetizers and entrees. For main my friend ordered the lobster mac and cheese and I the lobster risotto. They were out of lobster so the waiter... More

I have been to Caren's a few times for mostly wine and cheese. Their cheese platters are amazing and they have a lot of variety. Good Wine list as well. I finally had dinner here the other day was disappointing. The food was mediocre and cold. We had 4 different dishes and all were Meh, I will go back for... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
