Good food , lively atmosphere

Enjoyed a nice casual evening at Carens . Our server was excellent - good service with humour thrown in . Seemed to be the case with all the servers we observed .We enjoyed a nice cheese & chorizo tray as an appetizer - definitely meant to be shared by 2 or more people . Also enjoyed excellent... read more

I took my 20 year old daughter to Carens 2 days ago for a late lunch. We were the only guests in the restaurant. While a cute spot we immediately noticed nothing was clean. The wine glass stems were dirty with water marks all over the glass, same with the water glasses. The glass candle holder brought with the fondue (we... More

Our server brought two of our three dishes after 45 minutes. The third one followed at least 5 minutes later. It was so cold in the restaurant that I kept my coat on throughout. Food was pretty good but was over shadowed by sub-par service.

Awful awful awful. Food is okay but it will take 2 hours for you to see food. Service is horrible and they don't even know the menu. No way this place should survive and no idea how it has survived so far. Dire. Stay away - please let this place die and vanish. Sad there is no rating less than... More

In a word, we didn't experience Rosedale Carens. The man at the front of the room chased our party away. It was Saturday evening after the annual Cavalcade of Lights. Caren's was certainly busy but still appeared well under control. The front man could have been more accommodating but wasn't. I have a thought on why but will never know... More

We were excited to have a newbie on the block. That excitement ended badly. Quite possibly, the restaurant isn't ready for a lunchtime trade and should wait until they at least, have a tried and true lunch menu. We were seated quickly by a friendly hostess and given the Sunday brunch menu, featuring several egg dishes, a couple of salads... More

We sat at the bar and it felt like we were the only guests in the house! Fun, friendly and fantastic food! We have the meat and cheese board to share and then I had mussels and fries - delicious! Would highly recommend yorkville's best kept little secret!

Wow... what a disappointment. We heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant, but had a terrible dinner there yesterday. The actually ran out of many of the dishes on the menu - which was very embarrassing for our waiter. The sardine appetizer was very "fishy" tasting, with no lime or lemon. The pasta was barely cooked. The only... More

Stopped in for dinner at Carens on a Monday night. One of our party had had a bad experience before, but we decided to give it a chance. When we first arrived we were seated on the back patio - a very nice setting. Our waiter greeted us and was quite funny and charming. Little did we know, this was... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
