Try the Plantains!

Everything's ok in this cuban cuisine based restaurant. Service is nice, the place is really nicely furnished, but even if food is nice it's not really a special experience. But it's all good enough for you to give a try and make your own opinion...

We've eaten here several times and have always enjoyed the intimate, well designed space and accommodating service. The food is always excellent. We recently celebrated my birthday dinner here and it didn't disappoint. An appetizer of grilled shrimp, guacamole-like avocado and tostones (twice fried flattened plantains) was to die for. Flatiron steaks with chimichurri and crisply fried shallots had an... More

This Cuban eatery is next door to the Lower Ossington Theatre. It has a fairly limited menu, but the food was excellent. We started with Corn Cakes appetizer which we shared. It was spicy and wonderful. The three mains (Steak, Chicken and Cod Fish) were all very good. The mains do not come with sides, and these have to be... More

Bistro fare done with imagination in a very "intime" setting. The menu is not expansive but every dish is prepared with care and attention to detail. This for the true foodie. The home made donuts are a dessert must.

Delux on Ossington was a pleasant surprise. And coveniently located a couple doors down from our favorite tequila bar; Reposado (save that for next time though. This was a Tuesday night). Small and understated industrial decor w faux leather bench seating lead into a minimal menu of inexpensive but delicious apps, entrees and desserts. A quick phone call we learned... More

This no fuss dining spot serves up a great Cuban sandwich packed with meat and cheesy goodness! Service was so-so as it was packed, however would definitely go back simply because the sandwich was that good!

Ossington has become such a great street for dining. Not long ago was a derelict spot. "Deluxe" has a warm feeling, simple exposed heat ducts, banquettes and windows onto the street. Great warm welcome and knowledgeable wait staff. Flood is well thought out. I had the white fish strips done fritti! So good! Try a reasonable caucuses red and you... More

Went for early lunch with a friend. We ordered the cubano & chicken sandwiches. Sides of fries & fried ripe plantains. The cubano was nicely grilled and had a good amount of meat & cheese. The chicken was nice and fresh with avocado & tomato. My friend enjoyed the fries and the plantains were slightly caramalized and have a nice... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
