I went here for breakfast, the food was good but it was gross to sit in the restaurant. I felt the need to have a shower after, everything was sticky with syrup. The staff need to spend some money to fix this place up. I'm ashamed to call this a landmark for Thunder Bay. I wouldn't bring anyone from out... More

I lived in Thunder Bay all my life and everyone always went crazy for the hoito. My friends brought me for my first time and I was not very impressed. Sure the food was good but the look of the restaurant had me wanting to leave. They need to update.

As Thunder Bay is my hometown, of course I've been to the Hoito. Although I have been here for breakfast and dinner many times, it's not the same. I heard there was a change in management. The food was half decent, but has been in decline, since I last remember it. Hopefully the Hoito can turn it around

We have been enjoying eating at the Hoito for years but the last two visits have been very disappointing. The quality of the food is not nearly as good as we have found over the years.

The food was okay, nothing wrong and the pancakes were very good. The atmosphere though is loud with clattering dishes and since you are in a basement it feels like it. Very 70's and not well kept.

I've been to Hoito on a number of occasions. When you are there if feels as if you are participating in a tradition. I've gone at a typical breakfast time when the line went out to the street. When I came a bit later seating was almost immediate. The food is good and reasonably priced. About as good as most... More

The service was excellent. The atmosphere was nice and seemed busy. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. Ok so enough of that stuff. The bacon was great!!! The pancakes were delicious!! The coffee was pretty good! I'll go back next time I'm in town!

Reading about Thunder Bay we were actually looking forward to eating at the Hoito. It was a bit of a letdown. The building the restaurant is in is handsome and the restaurant area in the basement has an interesting Nordic 60's design feel, but the food wasn't memorable and seemed a bit high-priced. Our waitress was friendly, but harried: the... More

I havebeen to the Hoito a few times while visiting Thunder Bay. A very disappointing visit today. Long line....indifferent waitperson.....almost 50 minutes wait until we got our order of just pancakes..really 50 minutes to make three orders of pancakes? No additional coffee offered after our one cup....this place is way overrated...do yourself a favour take a pass!!

You can get breakfast here all day long, so you can go any time of the day to get the best Finn pancakes in the city.
