If you've never had a Finn pancake, it will be a good place to start. For lunch I would recommend first-timers to try something traditional like the mojakka (beef vegetable stew with clear broth) with rye bread. This is the stuff most Finns in Northwest Ontario would've been raised on and it is served here as it was 20, 40... More

Fine Finnish cuisine that reflects the local Finnish community. A local meeting place. Get there early to avoid lineups especially for Breakfast.

This is a local favorite where they make some of the best fin pancakes in Thunder Bay. The prices are very reasonable and the food is worth the wait if you go during lunch time hours. The ladies who serve have a great attitude and are very friendly and helpful. If you want a little bit of Finland in your... More

Great food, especially filling are the fin pancakes. But if you have any sort of European background, you've probably had something like these before. Great place for breakfast or brunch but you can find other more exciting dining options for lunch/dinner. Can be pretty busy weekend mornings and there may be a wait. Reasonably priced and friendly simple decor.

This restaurant is cafeteria/diner ish! The tables and chairs, walls, menu, washrooms remind me of a small diner. But the food is great and prices are reasonable. A lot of people head there after church so be careful of the day or time you choose to go. I have had to wait in line for a table on more than... More

The food ranges from average to an interesting sample of local Finnish Cuisine. Known for many things i.e. Finnish pancakes, but I would suggest that you try the rice pudding with blueberry sauce (or soup) as I was raised to call it. The main reason to see visit this restaurant is for the slice of Thunder Bay life you can... More

The historic Finnish labour Temple houses the Hoito. Basic Finnish food. Huge portions. The pancakes are extremely filling. Unless you can eat 6 potatoes have the small soup. The restaurant has its roots in the 1930,s feeding bush workers. Rick Mercer, The Good Lovelies and many politicians have eaten here!

The Hoito is the place to go when you come to Thunder Bay or live here. It is a tradition to go on Saturday or Sunday morning. Food is always delicious - just good down to earth meals. Finnish pancakes are always special and other Finnish dishes - breakfast served all day long - just a great drop in place... More
